Morson Group in Saratoga Springs, NY seeks a Controls Designer for a 6-month contract to lead the design of protection and control aspects of FACTS projects. Hybrid role with 40 hours/week (8:30 am – 5 pm), four days in the office.

You will develop protection/control designs for FSC, SVC and SC solutions, create BOMs, and coordinate with engineers and offshore resources to meet project goals and ISO9001 standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with relevant experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Electrical and BOM development.
• Familiarity with protection and control design standards.

Responsabilités

• Design protection and control solutions for FACTS projects, including schematics and wiring.
• Develop Bills of Materials and ensure quality across design documentation.

Job Description Summary

As a member of this world class team, the Controls Designer will lead and execute the design of protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the design documentation of the protection and control aspects of fixed series capacitors (FSC), static VAR compensation (SVC) and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within GE’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Design of custom protection and control solutions, including physical layouts, schematics, logic diagrams, wiring/interconnection, grounding, cable schedules and other required custom control hardware for custom FACTS solutions for orders and proposals.
• Develop Bills of Material for all designs, ensure consistency and quality throughout all design documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of standard control documentation for FACTS equipment including protection and control systems.
• Coordinate with offshore design resources and the project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control and schedule objectives.
• Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders and support organizations.
• Facilitate the development and execute cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low-cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction.
• Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation.
• Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university or college with 2 years experience; or an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5 years of experience in the specific field of controls design.
• AutoCAD 2D Design, AutoCAD Electrical, Bill of Materials (BOM)

Desired Characteristics:

• Proficient in Standard Drafting practices
• Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, AUS, CSA, and NESC standards and codes, and ability to design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
