Job description

Our Client is seeking a Controls Specialist to provide hands‑on technical support for control systems associated with products already in production and in the field. This position will play an important role in diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, and controls‑related issues, coordinating system and software updates, and helping ensure equipment operates reliably for both internal teams and customers.

The Controls Specialist will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Service, outside technical partners, and customers to identify problems, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions. This individual will also provide support for production testing equipment and will take ownership of controls‑related issues from initial identification through final resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key technical resource for electrical, hydraulic, and controls‑related issues involving equipment in production or operating in the field.
  • Troubleshoot system‑level problems and drive issues toward timely and effective resolution.
  • Provide controls expertise and technical assistance to internal Sales and Service teams as well as customers.
  • Travel to customer or field locations when hands‑on troubleshooting or technical support is required.
  • Coordinate updates and modifications to control systems on existing products in partnership with internal teams, vendors, and outside software resources.
  • Assist with the operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continued improvement of production test stands and related testing equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical and controls issues using wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, control logic, and other technical documentation.
  • Work with third‑party software developers, suppliers, and technical partners to implement, test, and validate software updates and corrective solutions.
  • Investigate recurring equipment or controls issues to identify root causes and recommend long‑term corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation of technical issues, system performance, troubleshooting findings, and completed solutions to improve future support.
  • Communicate effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Service to ensure technical issues are understood and appropriately addressed.
  • Work directly with customers and field personnel when necessary to gather information, diagnose problems, and support resolution.
  • Take ownership of assigned technical issues through completion, including follow‑up to confirm the problem has been fully resolved.
  • Independently manage priorities and workload while remaining aligned with broader team and business objectives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends, recurring failures, and opportunities to improve product or process reliability.
Qualifications

Our Client is looking for an individual with a combination of technical knowledge, hands‑on troubleshooting ability, and strong communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business‑related discipline; or three to five years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Approximately 2–4 years of experience working with controls, electrical systems, manufacturing equipment, or a related environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities involving electrical and hydraulic control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical documentation, hydraulic schematics, and other technical information.
  • Familiarity with HMIs, sensors, and basic control systems is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative, assume ownership of technical problems, and drive issues through resolution.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with a broader technical and operational team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate directly with customers and field personnel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed for customer and field support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
