The Lead Electrical/Controls Engineer optimizes highly automated manufacturing equipment and processes at a Bellwood, Virginia aluminum extrusion and tube mill plant. The role designs, develops and implements visual systems, provides technical support to Operations and Maintenance, and leads reliability and improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and implement visual systems to reduce errors and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams as needed.
- Combine theoretical knowledge and practical experience to innovate new products and processes.
- Lead or serve on continuous improvement and Six Sigma project teams.
- Support plant safety initiatives and industrial electrical systems.
- Mentor employees to enhance equipment and process knowledge.
- Document all technical work thoroughly.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing operation.
- High competency with Allen‑Bradley PLC (Control Logix 5000), HMI, and Allen‑Bradley motor drives.
Desired Skills
- Excellent equipment troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong analytical problem‑solving and organizational skills.
- PC proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data collection and analysis packages).
- Solid interpersonal skills and clear communication.
- Ability to work independently with low supervision and in a team environment.
- Experience with technical projects in manufacturing; robotics experience is a plus.
