Job summary

Gilder Search Group is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Lead for Data Centers in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will lead a team of commissioning engineers and project managers on a wide range of data center projects, ensuring high commissioning standards and thorough documentation.

The ideal candidate has 5–10+ years in electrical/mechanical commissioning, a related degree, and prior data center experience. Strong written and verbal communication is essential; travel up to 50% is required with growth

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10+ years experience in the Electrical / Mechanical Commissioning Field.
  • Bachelor's / Associates Degree as an Electrical Engineer / Mechanical Engineer a plus.
  • A/E experience in complex facilities or mission critical projects.
  • Data Center / Mission Critical experience a must.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with Level 1-5 commissioning.
  • Experience managing commissioning teams and developing plans for large scale commissioning projects.
  • Experience with IEEE / ASHRAE procedures and protocols a plus.
  • Possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
  • Open to travel 50% (not long periods; travel closer to 10-20% if based near a major Data Center).

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple Commissioning Projects consists of a full team of commissioning engineers and commissioning project managers on a wide range of Data Center Commissioning projects.
  • Will not have manage staff at the onset; candidate will be managing the technical aspect of projects and act as a technical resource commissioning teams.
  • Will grow into a technical management role with people management in 6-18 month timeframe.
  • Ensure Commissioning standards are being followed for: Equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; Development of SOPs and MOPs; Comprehensive Commissioning documentation.
  • Ensure that the overall Commissioning process is being followed with the highest of standards: test procedures, logs, checklists, and comprehensive reports.
  • Search and review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals; integrated system testing and load bank testing.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners' agents as needed.
  • Execute project assignments; interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians; interact with engineering and design teams.
  • Verify commissioning results of test reports; assist with field troubleshooting; field experience with related testing equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the overall Commissioning process is being followed with the highest of standards:
    • Commissioning test procedures and reports
    • Commissioning logs, equipment checklist, and other tools to track commissioning projects
    • Comprehensive reports which include:
      • recommendations for optimizing building operations
      • functional checklists
      • list of deficiencies
      • equipment operation
      • maintenance manuals
  • Have the team follow Commissioning Standards:
    • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to commissioning
    • Integrated system testing; Load Bank Testing; Compilation of all testing procedure results
    • Functional tests for various building MEP systems, such as: fire alarm and control systems, HVAC, Chillers, CRAC units, normal and standby electrical distribution systems, UPS, standby generators, and emergency lighting, etc.
    • System Assembly;
    • Commission plan preparation
    • Follow company QC process and procedures
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners agents as needed;
  • Execute project assignments; Interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians; Interact with all facets of the company: engineering, design, etc.
  • Verification of commissioning results of test reports
  • Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed; Field experience in the operation and application of Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, Data loggers, and related system testing equipment
Qualifications:
  • 5 to 10 + years experience in the Electrical / Mechanical Commissioning Field
  • Bachelor's / Associates Degree as an Electrical Engineer / Mechanical Engineer a plus
  • A/E experience working in complex facilities or mission critical projects
  • Previous Data Center / Mission Critical experience a must
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction)
  • Experience with Level 1-5 commissioning
  • Experience managing commissioning teams and developing plans for large scale commissioning projects
  • Experience with IEEE / ASHRAE procedures and protocols a plus
  • Possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy Nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)
  • Open to 50% Travel (not long periods of travel / just many smaller ones to check on multiple projects);UNLESS you are based near a major Data Center build and then your travel is closer to 10-20%
  • Must live near a major airport
