Job summary

GFT in New York City seeks an Electrical Building Assessor to join our NYC team. The on-site position performs visual condition assessments of electrical systems for large facility portfolios, documenting deficiencies with field notes and photos and entering data into standardized assessment tools.

Travel is within the five boroughs on a flexible hourly, as-needed schedule. The role supports QA/QC and requires strong documentation and field-technology proficiency; PE license is preferred but not

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' relevant field experience evaluating electrical systems in buildings.
• Ability to identify typical failure modes and condition indicators for electrical components.
• Strong documentation skills; ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout the 5 boroughs for field assessments.
• Proficiency with field technology, including mobile data collection tools, SharePoint workflows, and structured reporting platforms.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

GFT is looking for an Electrical Building Assessor to join our NYC team! The Electrical Building Assessor conducts on-site condition assessments of electrical systems for large Facility Condition Assessment portfolios. The assessments are visual only. This role evaluates the current condition, remaining useful life, and repair needs of existing facilities. This includes identifying deficiencies and documenting observed conditions. These findings are communicated through detailed field notes, supporting photographs and completion of data entry or reporting following fieldwork. The position supports an hourly, as-needed workforce model aligned to fluctuating project demands; work will not be scheduled at full-time capacity, and compensation will apply only to assigned work hours.

Electrical Items To Identify And Visually Assess

• Switchgear, transformers, panels, breakers, lighting, generators, fire alarm and security systems

In the capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following

Field assessment

• Visually assess systems cited above.
• Identify deficiencies, performance issues, end-of-life indicators, and operational risks, and document findings clearly with detailed notes and photos.
• Coordinate with structural/architectural assessors to provide a complete building-level assessment narrative.

Data capture, QA/QC, and reporting support

• Use of GFT-provided devices, GFT SharePoint, and standardized assessment application tools to collect, organize, upload, and manage field findings.
• Respond to Quality Review comments on your post-field data entry and submission to streamline final reporting.

Travel & logistics

• For travel in and out of New York City, standard public transit is expected whenever practical. Extenuating travel needs may be reviewed and compensated in accordance with approved program guidance and expense processes.
• Maintain safe work practices and comply with all site requirements and installation protocols.

Education | Experience

What You Will Bring To Our Firm

• A minimum of 5 years' relevant field experience evaluating electrical systems in buildings of various size and use.
• Ability to identify typical failure modes and condition indicators for electrical components.
• Strong documentation skills; ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout the 5 boroughs for field assessments.
• Proficiency with field technology, including mobile data collection tools, SharePoint-based workflows, and structured reporting platforms; candidates who are novice technology users in the field may not be the right fit for this role.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven field environment with changing project needs and schedules.
• Ability to remain fully engaged during field assignments, with focused attention on inspections, documentation, and project requirements throughout scheduled field time.
• PE license (Electrical) or equivalent advanced technical credential/experience. License is not required with adequate experience.

Compensation

The pay range for this hourly, as-needed role is $52.00-$58.00 per hour. Compensation is based on assigned, approved hours worked and is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Work is not guaranteed on a full-time basis, and this position is not for full-time hire. There may be potential for this position to transition to full-time employment in the future based on business needs, project workload, and individual performance.
