Overview & Responsibilities

To fabricate conduit for electrical or instrumentation wiring, install switches, signals, wiring, etc., for electrical instruments on all product lines. Install performance and mechanical instrumentation for testing compressors and turbines. Assemble and test electrical power cables, system electrical feedthroughs, power cable support assemblies, and Vibration Monitoring System (VMS Bultheads).

Responsibilities
  • Receives instructions from supervision.
  • Receives wiring diagrams and work orders.
  • Analyze all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to determine material needs and assembly specifications along with methods. Make any sketches required when drawings are not available.
  • Plan details of working procedure and determines tools and materials required.
  • Perform all mechanical tests required on electrical equipment installed on the unit.
  • Fabricate parts as required, using shop machines and hand tools.
  • Fabricate conduits with proper measuring and bending methods.
  • Install conduits on unit per drawing, short forms, etc.
  • Install electrical wiring as called for by drawings, bills of material, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Operate overhead crane and jib cranes.
  • Report identifying data and time spent on jobs to foreman.
  • Prepare daily log of work accomplished and any difficulty that has been encountered and corrections made.
  • Wipe and keep machines, tools, and workplace clean.
  • Maintain good housekeeping by keeping tools, materials and equipment in proper place.
  • Report defective material and equipment to supervision as soon as discovered.
  • Observe all safety rules and report hazardous conditions.
  • Perform stud welding as required.
  • Operate forklift truck and other material handling equipment.
  • Operate portable welder as required.
  • Troubleshoot including checking resistance and voltage common with above connections to verify their integrity.
  • Wire compressor and turbines for final shipment.
  • Utilize computer to look up drawings, do email and various software used in testing and wiring compressors and turbines.
  • Assist Instrumentation Specialists.
  • Do shaft surface micorpeening for vibration analysis.
  • Perform hipot testing on electrical components such as power cables and feedthroughs; AC and DC hipot testing up to 30KV for 60 seconds.
  • Perform megger testing on electrical components such as power cables and feedthroughs; DC voltage megger testing up to 10KV for 60 seconds.
  • Perform helium leak checks on electrical components such as VMS feedthroughs and ammonia pump flex conduits; helium leak checks with pressures up to 100 PSIG with 5 minutes of continuous monitoring.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm) and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
