Job summary

Rocky Mountain Electric in Salt Lake City, Utah is seeking 3rd and 4th year electrical apprentices. You will learn new construction and maintenance work, install conduit and wiring, and support electrical panels and testing equipment under Journeyman supervision.

This apprenticeship emphasizes safety, code compliance, and hands-on training across multiple projects with opportunities for advancement. Strong teamwork and reliability are valued as you gain 6000+ hours of field experience by Year 4.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in Electrical Apprenticeship Program with year progressed.
  • Must maintain valid apprenticeship card and wear it during work hours.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Must have valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Dig trenches and install conduit and supports as directed.
  • Install copper-clad ground rods and perform basic electrical installations.
  • Assist with wiring, testing, and troubleshooting under supervision.
  • Transport and organize tools, materials and equipment at the site.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow safety protocols.

Summary:

An Electrical Apprentice possesses basic knowledge of new construction and demo electrical power installation including but not limited to alterations additions and /or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment with in the electrical industry. Apprentice Electricians are responsible for planning, diagram, install, and repair electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels in addition to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit (pipe or tubing), and pull wire through conduit. Consistently test circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components, using instruments; such as the ohmmeter and other testing equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Dig trenches or hole for installation of conduit or supports, hand holes, man holes and foundations
  • Install copper-clad ground rods, using a manual post driver
  • Break up concrete, using air hammer, to facilitate installation, construction or repair of equipment
  • Transport tools, materials, equipment and supplies to work site by hand truck, or heavy motorized truck
  • Raise, lower or position equipment tools and materials using hoist hand line or block and tackle
  • Inform Journeyman of material needs
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep parts and supplies in orderPerform semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment
  • Thread conduit ends, connect couplings and fabricate and secure conduit support brackets using hand tools
  • Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings, using hand and power tools
  • Clean work area and tools
Year 1 Apprentice:
  • Must be able to interpret and follow the National Electric Code and comply with state and local building codes
  • Must have all tools located onApprentice Tool List
  • Must be enrolled or scheduled to enroll in electrical apprenticeship program
  • Must maintain valid apprenticeship card and have it on your person at all times during work hours
  • Must be capable of following instructions, have good communication skills, and the ability to retain information
  • Must be capable of identifying materials used in the trade
  • Completion of required safety trainings
  • Recommended completion of (16) electrical continuing education credits
  • Must complete OSHA 10
Year 2 Apprentice:
  • Valid Apprentice Electrician license with the State of Utah
  • Enrolled in Electrical Apprenticeship Program - 1styear of school completed with a ‘C’ or better average
  • 2000+ hours electrical experience in the field documented
  • Expanded knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and regulations
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical diagrams and blueprints
  • Experience in basic electrical installations and repairs
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and procedures
Year 3 Apprentice:
  • Valid Apprentice Electrician license with the State of Utah
  • Enrolled in Electrical Apprenticeship Program – 2ndyear completed with a ‘C’ or better average
  • 4000+ hours electrical experience in the field documented
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, components, and their functions
  • Experience in complex electrical installations, repairs, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to lead small projects and mentor less experienced apprentices
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations.
  • Proficient use of electrical tools, equipment, and testing instruments
Year 4 Apprentice:
  • Valid Apprentice Electrician license with the State of Utah
  • Enrolled in Electrical Apprenticeship Program – 3rdyear completed with a ‘C’ or better average
  • 6000+ hours electrical experience in the field documented
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, components, and their applications
  • Expertise in electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs
  • Ability to work independently on complex electrical projects
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently
  • Excellent understanding of electrical codes, regulations, and safety protocols
Physical Demands & Qualifications:
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
  • Ability to hear and respond to conversations, phone calls and other sounds
  • Ability to lift50lbs+
  • Stand 90% of the day
  • Climb ladders
  • Possess good vision (normal or corrected)
  • Carry material from one location to another or floor to floor
  • Lifting and work with tools above head
  • Lifting, positioning and fastening of heavy electrical equipment
  • Lifting, positioning and fasting objects such as light fixtures, wire, conduit, junction boxes, motors and other equipment
  • Must be able to work from A-Frames, extension ladders, boom lift, scaffolds and aerial work platforms at various heights
  • Identify and separate wires by color
  • Dig and work in trenches
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
