ELECTRICIAN APPRENTICE

Reports to: Store Manager or Project Director
Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt
Location: Fairbanks, AK
Compensation: $21-$24 DOE

JOB SUMMARY: The Electrician Apprentice is an entry-level position designed for individuals eager to learn the electrical trade with a focus on renewable energy (solar and battery storage systems) and specialty residential systems. Working directly under the supervision of a licensed Journeyman Electrician, the Apprentice will assist with wiring, conduit bending, equipment mounting, and site preparation. This role emphasizes hands‑on training, job site safety, code compliance, and delivering high‑quality service to our clients across Alaska.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Lead Electricians: Support Journeyman Electricians with the installation, wiring, and integration of residential solar panels, battery systems, transfer switches, and hot tub circuits.
  • Material Handling & Prep: Assist with measuring, cutting, and bending conduit, as well as pulling wire and assembling components as directed.
  • Job Site Organization & Logistics: Load and unload equipment, track inventory on work vehicles, and maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site.
  • Tool Care & Safety: Properly handle, clean, and store hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to ensure safe operations.
  • Documentation Support: Help track materials used, assist with taking photo documentation of job sites, and support routine paperwork completion.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily vehicle inspections (DVIR) and assist in keeping company vehicles clean, stocked, and ready for service.
  • Customer Representation: Interact professionally with homeowners and team members, representing the company with a positive, customer‑first attitude.
  • Professional Growth: Attend company‑provided training, participate in safety meetings, and actively work toward completing required apprenticeship hours and certifications.
  • Perform other supportive duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of NEC codes and local electrical regulations for solar installations.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ability to install and wire residential solar systems, including inverters, panels, disconnects, and meters.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing electrical issues in renewable energy systems.
  • Familiar with energy storage systems, net metering, and basic solar sales principles.
  • Knowledge of safety best practices when working around water, rooftops, and energized systems.
  • Ability to manage installation timelines, site readiness, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with homeowners, team members, and sales staff.
  • Basic computer literacy, including use of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Able to work independently, maintain clean job sites, and follow safety protocols.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid State of Alaska Electrical Apprentice License (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain/maintain a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (within 2 weeks of hire).
  • Availability to work 4x10-hour shifts with flexibility during peak seasonal demands or events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrollment in an accredited Electrical Apprenticeship Program or vocational/trade school coursework in Electrical or Renewable Energy technology.
  • Prior hands‑on experience in construction, roofing, residential trades, or outdoor labor.
  • Experience working with Alaska Native Corporations or in rural/remote Alaska settings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 75 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull up to 1,200 lbs. with assistance.
  • Comfort working at heights (roofs, ladders) and in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work overhead for extended periods during 10‑hour shifts.
  • Ability to walk and balance on uneven, icy, or slippery terrain.
  • Visual acuity and color vision to distinguish color‑coded electrical wiring and safety markings.
  • Tolerance for working outdoors in extreme Alaskan weather conditions, ranging from sub‑zero winter temperatures (-45°F) to summer heat (90°F).
  • Safe operation of motor vehicles in diverse Alaskan road and weather conditions.
