Job summary

Clayton Services in North Houston is seeking an Electrical Application Engineer to provide technical support across proposals and project lifecycles. You will interpret customer requirements, review electrical drawings, size equipment, and coordinate technical needs for power distribution projects.

The role requires 5+ years in electrical engineering and a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience). Direct Hire, onsite, with travel as needed; comprehensive benefits and bonus potential offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; equivalent directly applicable electrical power experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of electrical engineering, application engineering, power distribution, switchgear, transformer, or related experience required.
• Experience with LV, MV, and/or HV power distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications, single-line diagrams, equipment requirements, and technical documentation to determine project scope.
• Provide technical support for proposals, quotations, equipment selection, and project estimating.
• Specify and size electrical equipment including switchgear, switchboards, transformers, circuit breakers, protective devices, bus systems, CTs, PTs, controls, and related components.
• Review engineering drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Interpret and mark up single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control diagrams, and equipment layouts.
• Translate customer requirements into clear technical specifications and project documentation.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies between customer specifications, drawings, applicable standards, and equipment designs.
• Support electrical equipment retrofits, upgrades, modifications, and replacement projects.
• Work directly with customers, vendors, contractors, and field personnel to resolve technical and application-related issues.
• Support equipment testing, inspections, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field verification as needed.
• Assist with electrical equipment and system evaluations for industrial and commercial power applications.
• Ensure technical solutions comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and customer requirements.
• Collaborate across engineering, sales, project, and operational functions throughout the project lifecycle.

Clayton Services is searching for an Electrical Application Engineer to join a growing company in North Houston. The Electrical Application Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support throughout the proposal and project lifecycle, including interpreting customer requirements, reviewing electrical drawings and specifications, selecting and sizing equipment, supporting estimates and quotations, and coordinating technical requirements for electrical power distribution projects.

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $125,000 - $175,000, depending on experience

Electrical Application Engineer Responsibilities:

Electrical Application Engineer Skills and Abilities:

• Strong understanding of electrical power distribution equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of switchgear, switchboards, transformers, MCCs, circuit breakers, protective relays, controls, and related electrical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical specifications, one-line diagrams, schematics, equipment drawings, data sheets, and vendor documentation.
• Ability to select and size electrical equipment based on application requirements.
• Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and applicable UL standards.
• AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred.
• Strong estimating, technical documentation, and proposal support capabilities.
• Excellent customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Practical understanding of how electrical equipment is manufactured, installed, commissioned, and operated.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing environment.
• Flexible and willing to contribute outside of narrowly defined engineering responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with customers and internal teams.

Electrical Application Engineer Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; equivalent directly applicable electrical power experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of electrical engineering, application engineering, power distribution, switchgear, transformer, or related experience required.
• Experience with LV, MV, and/or HV power distribution systems.
• Experience with switchgear and transformer design, application, manufacturing, integration, or field support strongly preferred.
• Experience with packaged electrical equipment, substations, power generation, data centers, or industrial power distribution is highly desirable.
• Experience reviewing and modifying electrical drawings and equipment submittals.
• Field experience involving equipment testing, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, or modifications is highly desirable.
• Experience with an electrical equipment manufacturer, systems integrator, power distribution company, or similar environment is preferred.
