Job summary

Orica in Winnemucca, NV seeks an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to maintain, troubleshoot and calibrate instrumentation and electrical equipment supporting two NaCN solution plants and one NaCN solids plant. The role reports to the Maintenance Execution Superintendent and requires 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts and 24-hour on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• 4 years of trade qualification in electrical & instrumentation.
• Proven experience as Instrument & Electrical Technician in chemical manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting instrumentation loops, control systems (DCS/PLC), and electrical systems.
• Familiarity with process instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, flow meters, and analysers.
• Knowledge of electrical codes and standards and safety protocols for hazardous environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work independently or in a team.
• Effective communication with engineers, operators and maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to SH&E electrical safety standards and regulatory requirements during maintenance activities.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on instrumentation and electrical equipment.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical equipment problems; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Calibrate instrumentation devices and control systems per procedures and standards.
• Assist in installation, testing and commissioning of new instrumentation and electrical equipment.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, calibrations and equipment performance; generate reports.
• Respond promptly to instrumentation and electrical emergencies to minimize downtime.

About the role – Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (Winnemucca, NV)

We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for an Electrical and InstrumentationTechnician within our Specialty Mining Chemicals team.

The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating instrumentation and electrical equipment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the manufacturing processes. They work closely with the maintenance and product line teams to support production goals, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimize downtime due to instrumentation or electrical issues.

This position reports to the Maintenance Execution Superintendent and works collaboratively with maintenance team members and other site teams to ensure that the site's maintenance and plant uptime objectives are achieved safely and sustainably.

Role dimensions

• This is an on-site, hourly, full-time position
• Plant operations comprise two NaCN solution plants and one NaCN solids plant.
• The work schedule is 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts
• Requires being on 24-hour call for 1 week at a time, approximately every four to eight weeks, based on business needs.

What you will be doing

Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E): Adhere to electrical safety standards and regulatory requirements during all maintenance activities. Participate in safety inspections, audits, and training programs to promote a safe work environment.

Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on instrumentation and electrical equipment such as sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLCs, motor control centers, and other related devices.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose instrumentation and electrical equipment problems using appropriate tools and techniques. Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore functionality and prevent recurrence.

Calibration: Calibrate instrumentation devices and control systems in accordance with Orica procedures and standards. Ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements to maintain process efficiency and quality

Installation and Commissioning: Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new instrumentation and electrical equipment. Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure installations meet design specifications and safety requirements.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, calibrations, and equipment performance. As required, generate reports detailing equipment status, maintenance schedules, and recommendations for improvement.

Emergency Response: Respond promptly to instrumentation and electrical equipment emergencies and participate in troubleshooting and repair efforts to minimize production disruptions and ensure plant safety.

What you will bring

• 4 years of trade qualification in electrical & instrumentation
