Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in drafting or design tech is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of electrical design for industrial/EPC projects.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the drafting and design team to meet schedules, quality standards and budgets.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to plan, prioritize and execute design deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Estimate design and drafting effort required for complete engineering packages.
  • Develop and oversee complex electrical and instrumentation/control design deliverables, including layouts, cable tray routing, 3D modeling, and drawings.
  • Review and approve design packages for technical accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Mentor junior designers and promote best practices across the team.
  • Recommend design improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Evaluate CAD software enhancements and workflow improvements.
  • Maintain project documentation and design records per requirements.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve design issues and minimize rework.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards and safety requirements.

Our client, a well-established engineering and EPC organization, is seeking an experienced EIC Design Manager to lead a team of designers and drafters supporting complex industrial engineering projects. This hybrid leadership role is responsible for overseeing design quality, coordinating drafting resources, driving process improvements, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the drafting and design team to ensure project schedules, quality standards, and budget expectations are met.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Engineers to plan, prioritize, and execute design deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Estimate design and drafting effort required for complete engineering packages.
  • Develop and oversee complex electrical and instrumentation/control (EIC) design deliverables, including electrical layouts, cable tray routing, 3D modeling, equipment layouts, and construction and installation drawings.
  • Review and approve design packages for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and client standards.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers while promoting best practices throughout the design team.
  • Recommend design improvements that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and simplify construction.
  • Evaluate and implement CAD software enhancements and workflow improvements.
  • Maintain project documentation and design records in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve design issues and eliminate rework.
  • Ensure designs incorporate applicable industry standards, codes, and safety requirements throughout all project phases.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of electrical design experience supporting industrial engineering or EPC projects.
  • Previous experience in the oil & gas industry is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience within a drafting or design environment.
  • Strong proficiency with industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, AutoCAD Electrical, and other comparable design platforms.
  • Experience developing detailed construction and engineering design packages from concept through final design.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Electrical, instrumentation, and controls (EIC) design expertise.
  • Experience supporting large capital or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with 3D design workflows and design automation tools.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience implementing drafting and design process enhancements.
