Job summary

HPF Consultants, Inc. is seeking an I&E Designer to produce instrumentation and electrical design drawings for oil and gas projects. You will collaborate with other disciplines to create layout packages and construction drawings while applying NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NEMA, and IEC symbols.

The role requires experience with PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment lists, and the ability to lead drafters in a team-based environment. On-site work in Midland, TX, with safety training responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of design/drafting experience or equivalent field experience.
  • Knowledgeable in referencing codes and standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass basic safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Understand PFDs, P&IDs and layout packages for plants and pipelines.
  • Attend project meetings to define client needs and scope.
  • Create electrical system walk downs and as-built drawings.
  • Design construction drawings: one-line diagrams, motor schematics, grounding plans, routing plans, interconnection diagrams, area classification, lighting, BOM.
  • Create conduit and cable schedules per NEC sizing and conduit fill.
  • Design PLC panel layouts and BOM to UL 508A compliance.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for scope and design.
  • Lead and train designer/drafters within the team.
  • Perform other management-directed tasks.

About the Role

The I&E Designer will be responsible for producing instrumentation and electrical design drawings for projects in the oil and gas industry. The I&E Designer also works with other engineering disciplines to create instrumentation and electrical drawings and layout packages for construction. This is a technical position and requires basic knowledge of the National Electric Code (NFPA 70), National Electric Safety Code (NPFA 70E), NEMA Standards and some IEC Symbology.

Responsibilities
  • Understanding of process flow diagrams (PFD), piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID), general equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment and instrument lists for various company plants, pipelines, and related facilities construction projects.
  • Attending project meetings to obtain full understanding of client needs and scope definitions, and to provide technical input toward efficient and effective designs.
  • Ability to do electrical system walk downs and create as-built drawings.
  • Design construction drawings such as: one-line diagrams, motor schematics, grounding plans, routing plans, interconnection diagrams, area classification plans, lighting plan and BOM.
  • Be able to create conduit and cable schedules which require the knowledge of the NEC Code in regards cable sizing and conduit fill.
  • Design PLC panel layouts, wiring and bill of materials to UL 508a compliance.
  • Interact with other disciplines for scope and design coordination.
  • Must have leadership ability to collaborate with designer/drafters to train and grow within the organization.
  • Other functions as directed by management.
Qualifications
  • Five (5) + years design/drafting experience or equivalent field experience.
  • Knowledgeable in referencing codes, and standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass basic safety Training.
Physical Requirements
  • Required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs and ladders, balance, stoop or kneel, talk, and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Use up-close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Extended amounts of time at a workstation utilizing equipment such as computer monitors, keyboard, telephone, etc.
  • In some cases, the site working environment may include outside conditions and exposure to elevated temperatures.
  • Must be able to lift fifteen pounds at times.
