Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Designer
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to support engineering, maintenance, and capital improvement projects within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This position will be responsible for producing and updating electrical and instrumentation design documentation, performing field investigations, and supporting engineering teams throughout project execution.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical and instrumentation design experience within refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, power generation, or other industrial facilities.
- Experience working in operating industrial plants and interacting directly with field personnel.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and design development.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret and apply facility design standards, engineering specifications, and industry best practices.
- Strong understanding of industrial safety requirements and field work expectations.
- Position requires regular access to operating industrial facilities and process units.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
- Must be comfortable conducting field inspections, equipment reviews, and site verification activities.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas when required.
Design & Drafting
- Develop and revise electrical and instrumentation drawings in support of engineering and construction projects.
- Create field sketches and convert them into detailed design documents.
- Update existing drawings to reflect equipment modifications, system upgrades, and as-built conditions.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of:
- Control panel and cabinet layouts
- Distributed control system (DCS) documentation
- Instrument installation and location drawings
- Grounding and bonding layouts
- Lighting system drawings
- Heat tracing documentation
- Conduit and cable routing schedules
- Hazardous area classification drawings
- Process and instrumentation drawing updates
- Perform site walkdowns to collect design information and verify existing conditions.
- Review equipment locations, cable routing paths, instrument installations, and electrical systems.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction personnel to resolve design-related issues.
Documentation Management
- Maintain engineering drawing files and project records.
- Assist with document tracking, revision control, and drawing distribution processes.
- Support drawing numbering, document retrieval, and records management activities.
- Ensure project documentation remains current and organized throughout the project lifecycle.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience supporting projects in refinery, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, power generation, or similar industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with instrumentation systems, motor controls, power distribution equipment, and industrial automation platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project priorities in a fast-paced environment.
