Job summary

SEH seeks an Electric Utilities Group Leader to build and scale SEH’s electric utilities business across the Midwest. You will define the vision, strategy, and service expansion roadmap, growing revenue and establishing capabilities in distribution, substation, and transmission services.

You will recruit and lead a high-performing team, drive business development, and ensure technical credibility while collaborating with SEH’s Mechanical/Electrical practice and broader teams for measurable

Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Experience in electric utilities or leading multi-disciplinary utility engineering teams.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD, CYME, ETAP, etc., and layout standards (IEEE, NESC, RUS).
  • Background in consulting engineering or utility operations/engineering.
  • Direct experience with municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, or investor-owned utilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (formal or informal).

Responsibilities

  • Define vision, strategy, and service expansion roadmap for the electric utilities group.
  • Grow revenue and establish engineering capabilities across distribution, substation, and transmission services.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team with clear roles and accountability.
  • Drive business development and maintain technical credibility with utility clients.

This Opportunity:

As the Electric Utilities Group Leader , you will be responsible for building, leading, and scaling SEH’s electric utilities business across the Midwest.

This includes:

  • Defining the vision, strategy, and service expansion roadmap
  • Growing revenue
  • Establishing engineering capabilities across distribution, substation, and transmission services (overhead and underground)
  • Building and leading a high-performing team
  • Driving both business development and technical excellence

Key Responsibilities:

1. Build the Business

  • Develop and execute a 3-year growth plan
  • Identify and prioritize new service lines:
    • Distribution engineering
    • Substation engineering and planning

Transmission engineering (planning, line design, reconductoring, rebuilds)

  • Additional utility services
  • Establish a clear roadmap for capability expansion

2. Drive Revenue Growth

  • Lead or support business development efforts
  • Leverage existing relationships or build new ones
  • Position SEH as a trusted partner to utilities

3. Establish Technical Capabilities

  • Build or expand internal expertise in:
    • Distribution engineering
    • Substation engineering, design, and planning
    • Transmission engineering
  • Ensure high-quality delivery and technical credibility

4. Build & Lead a Team

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a scalable team structure
  • Create clarity around roles, expectations, and performance
  • Foster a culture of accountability and ownership

5. Integrate Within SEH

  • Collaborate with the Mechanical/Electrical practice and broader teams
  • Align with SEH’s operational model (utilization, project delivery, etc.)

Translate strategy into measurable execution

Essential Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience in electric utilities (distribution and/or substation preferred) or Experience leading or scaling multi‑discipline utility engineering teams
  • Experience with PLS-CADD, CYME, ETAP, etc., and physical layout standards (IEEE, NESC, RUS)
  • Background in either:
    • Consulting engineering OR
    • Utility operations/engineering
  • Direct experience working with:
    • Municipal utilities
    • Electric cooperatives
    • Investor‑owned utilities
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (formal or informal)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience
  • Strong verbal communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong written communication skills.

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $125,000 and $175,000 based on skill set and experience. Check out our full benefits package at SEH Hiring Journey.
