Electric Power Generator (EPG) Service Technician – Lafayette, LA
Louisiana Cat, a proud Caterpillar® partner for 4 generations, seeks a skilled technician to service and repair power systems of all makes and models in both shop and field environments.
Salary
$60,000 – $120,000 per year (dependent on experience, skills, and training). Overtime is typically paid on a daily basis after 8 hours worked.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on diesel and natural gas engines, generators, controls, automatic transfer switches, paralleling switchgear, and fuel supply systems.
- Accountable for EPG technical instructions, safety and service manuals.
- Interpret electric and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
- Create, track, and formalize work order documents on Caterpillar customer service software.
- Understand Caterpillar’s exchange parts process and conduct financial cost analysis of repairs.
- Promote the Louisiana Cat brand by maintaining a standard of excellence.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Basic computer skills (typing, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
- 2+ years of electrical diagnostics experience on 8.5kW–2,500kW diesel or natural gas generators, ATSs, and paralleling switchgear (preferred).
- Commercial/industrial electrical or control experience (highly preferred).
- Heavy equipment engine experience (highly preferred).
- Experience with rental equipment (preferred).
- Must own required tool inventory; Louisiana Cat offers a Tooling Program.
- Strong customer‑service skills and safety‑first mentality.
- Familiarity with single‑phase and three‑phase AC/DC circuit theory and test equipment (highly preferred).
Job Facts
- 40+ hours per week; additional hours for emergency calls or routine services.
