Job summary

Apparatus Repair & Engineering, Inc. in Maryland is seeking technicians to inspect, repair, and test electric motors and related equipment. You will perform diagnostics, disassembly, and reassembly, both in shop and at customer sites.

The role requires practical mechanical skills, reading schematics, and the ability to troubleshoot and use testing instruments. A valid driver’s license is required and training opportunities are available.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
  • Technical/vocational training or apprenticeship in electrical/mechanical maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect, and evaluate motors and rotating equipment to determine repair requirements.
  • Repair, rebuild, and reassemble motors, generators, and related equipment per manufacturer specs.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical testing and document results.
  • Install/remove motors at customer facilities and provide field service.
  • Follow safety policies and maintain a clean, safe work area.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspection & Diagnostics
  • Disassemble, inspect, and evaluate electric motors and rotating equipment to determine repair requirements.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical testing, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, vibration, and bearing assessments.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Document inspection findings and repair recommendations.
Repair & Rebuild
  • Repair, rebuild, and reassemble electric motors, generators, and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Replace bearings, seals, shafts, fans, and other mechanical components as required.
  • Assist with motor rewinds, coil replacement, and insulation system repairs.
  • Perform balancing, alignment, and final assembly procedures.
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Conduct operational testing to verify equipment performance and reliability.
  • Complete required quality control inspections and test documentation.
  • Ensure repaired equipment meets customer specifications and AR&E quality standards.
Installation & Field Service
  • Install and remove motors and related equipment at customer facilities.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair activities in both shop and field environments.
  • Provide professional customer service and communicate repair findings.
Safety & Housekeeping
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and repair specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred
  • Technical school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or military training in electrical or mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience repairing electric motors, generators, pumps, or rotating equipment.
  • Knowledge of EASA repair practices and electric motor testing procedures.
  • Forklift, rigging, or crane operation experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance or lifting equipment.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in industrial environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and occasional on-call schedules as business needs require.
Work Environment
  • Primarily works in an electromechanical repair shop with occasional travel to customer sites.
  • Exposure to industrial machinery, noise, dust, and varying environmental conditions.
  • May work at heights and around energized equipment while following established safety procedures.
  • Will use a forklift to move items around as well as a to off load and onload a customer's vehicle.
