Job summary

Clark Public Utilities in Washington is seeking an Electric Distribution Designer to provide design drawings, estimates, and customer solutions for residential, commercial and industrial requests, including services, line extensions and relocations.

You will design complex distribution projects, prepare complete work order packages, develop project schedules, evaluate facilities for reliability, review customer data, and coordinate with superintendents to ensure timely service.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical design practices.
  • 3+ years in design of commercial/industrial extensions or large-scale projects.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, AutoCAD and internal systems.
  • Working knowledge of NESC and NEC codes.
  • Strong customer service and leadership skills.

Job description

WHAT YOU WOULD DO:
  • Provide design drawings, estimates and customer-requirements for residential, commercial and industrial customer requests including services, line extension and relocation work.
  • Responsible for design of complex distribution projects and/or transmission relocations.
  • Prepare and issue complete work order packages for agency relocation and system upgrade projects.
  • Develop and coordinate project schedules for all phases of work through completion (design, procurement, right of way, surveying, etc.)
  • Evaluate existing facilities for reliability and system capacity needs (existing and future); investigate design requirements and design options; provide recommendations and estimates for CPU installed facilities.
  • Review customer drawings and data and advise customers on technical requirements and options pertaining to their request for service in compliance with district policies, fee schedules and design/construction parameters.
  • Work with Construction Superintendents, customers and customer representatives to ensure customer service requests and design review are completed in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires an in-depth knowledge of electrical design practices, basic understanding of electrical principles and effective analytical problem solving and project management skills. A minimum of 3 years' experience in the design of commercial/industrial extensions and services, or in transmission or large-scale distribution projects. Excellent computer skills with experience in Excel, Word and AutoCAD, as well as the ability to work with our internal work order, customer information, GIS, and estimating systems. Working knowledge of NESC and NEC codes and electrical industry standards. Outstanding interpersonal skills demonstrated leadership skills and a strong commitment to delivery of excellent customer service. Significant interaction with customers is required.

Employees are enrolled in Washington State PERS and may enroll in deferred compensation plans. Employees will also receive eight hours of vacation leave and sick leave every month and twelve paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
SALARY

Employees are compensated within the established salary range. As skills, experience, and sustained performance grow, pay may progress within the range over time, with midpoint serving as a general reference point for employees who are fully proficient in the role.

Electric Distribution Designer: $98,645 - $122,217 - $145,791
