Xcel Energy is offering a paid internship in the Electric Distribution Area Engineering Organization in Minneapolis, MN, or Fargo, ND. Interns will support the Area Engineering Team with reliability analyses, root-cause investigations, and technical reporting to improve the power distribution system.

The role starts May 24, 2027, with potential extension based on performance. Candidates must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited program pursuing Electrical Engineering and be able to work full-time

Qualifications

• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).
• Hybrid work policy with in-person commuting to designated location.

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support the Electric Distribution Area Engineering Organization in Minneapolis, MN, or Fargo ND. The paid internship provides support to the Area Engineering Team which is responsible for the reliability of the electric distribution system. Interns will assist in root cause analysis and determining solutions to power outages, support technical reports, and gain knowledge of the distribution system. This internship provides an opportunity to solve real world problems and see solutions come to life that will have a positive impact on the community.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Assist in outage investigations
• Contribute to technical reports
• Learn how electricity is delivered
• Assist with protection and coordination studies

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Junior or higher
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $23.10 to $24.60 per hour
