Job summary

Craven County Board of Elections seeks an Elections Deputy Director to lead professional, managerial, and administrative duties under the Elections Director. You will supervise staff, assist in budgeting, and ensure compliance with North Carolina election laws and cyber security directives.

Experience in NC elections at the county level is valued, with certification as a NC Elections Administrator to be obtained within three years. Driving is required and a background check will be conducted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of planning and management experience in a governmental program or similar setting.
• Strong knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes and Board of Elections guidelines.
• Experience in personnel, payroll, and finance paperwork and budget preparation.
• Ability to supervise staff and allocate resources effectively.
• Familiarity with voter registration processes and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director in administering all functions of the Board of Elections to comply with statutes and directives.
• Organize elections and recounts, program and test voting machines, and coordinate equipment delivery.
• Prepare personnel, payroll, and finance paperwork; assist in annual budget processes.
• Oversee voter registration processing, eligibility checks, and updates to records.
• Identify polling locations, negotiate usage, and support Board meetings and reporting.
• Supervise Election Specialists and other staff; handle routine personnel matters.
• Perform related tasks as assigned; may serve during disasters.
