Job summary

Polk County Elections Office is seeking a temporary on-call clerk to coordinate absentee ballots and voter registrations, and to assist voters in person and by phone with election-related topics.

The position is not eligible for county benefits and requires high school graduation with clerical experience or equivalent training. The job involves clerical tasks, data entry, and customer service at the front counter.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern office practices and techniques.
• Basic knowledge of elections.
• Ability to walk and stand at times for prolonged periods.
• Ability to type 50 words per minute.
• Ability to communicate with the general public and coworkers using courtesy, patience, and tact.

Responsibilities

• Performs clerical work such as filing, sorting, and assisting the general public over the phone and in person; may perform basic computer data entry.
• Processes mailings using labels and multiple envelopes.
• Performs quality control of data entry on ballots, voter registration, etc.
• Processes voters at the front counter using laptops or Ipads.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
