Electrical Engineer I - V (Instrumentation & Controls)

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Electrical Engineer I - V (Instrumentation & Controls) located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes June 15, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled.

Position Summary

Assignments are designed to develop a general knowledge of professional engineering practice in the electric utility industry and introduce customer/supplier communication skills.

Intermediate level engineer responsible for independently trending equipment, evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria while recommending equipment maintenance, replacements, and/or performing modifications. Typical assignments include engineering, problem solving, and technical support for the optimal operation and maintenance of company assets. Participates on teams of field employees, technicians, engineers, and other personnel.

This position may be assigned to the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), requiring response to the station during emergencies. The ability to arrive at the station within 45 minutes of notification is a condition of employment.

Note: Level I to V Engineer is considered a progression, approved by the manager. Positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering CareerPath document.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (ABET Accredited) or a Professional Engineering License.

Other Requirements:

  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
  • Ability to perform cost estimating and scheduling
  • Technical math and writing skills
  • Entry into the Nuclear Engineering Support Program (ESP) upon hiring
Licenses and/or Certifications

None required.

Responsibilities
  • Review and initiate corrective actions based on investigations and industry sources.
  • Research new equipment technology; utilize drawings and technical software.
  • Review design codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop design requirements, calculations, drawings, and material lists.
  • Develop installation requirements and acceptance testing criteria.
  • Prepare Engineering Changes (EC) for plant modifications.
  • Trend equipment performance and review cybersecurity assessments to ensure compliance.
