Are you a dependable and courteous driver looking to make a difference in the lives of local seniors? The Town of Randolph is currently seeking a part-time Van Driver to join our Elder Affairs team and help provide safe, friendly, and reliable transportation services to senior residents.

What You’ll Do:

Drive senior citizens to and from local appointments and activities.

Assist riders safely on and off the vehicle and with light bags.

Perform regular safety checks on the van and report any service needs.

Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and ready for use.

Deliver department newsletters around town and assist with food pantry deliveries as needed.

Provide excellent customer service while supporting the independence of our senior community.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED preferred.

Valid MA Class D Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Ability to operate a handicap-accessible van and use basic technology (smartphones, GPS, hands-free devices).

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Experience with seniors or in a transportation role is a plus!

Schedule: Part-time schedule with 15 hours per week and the opportunity to cover other hours depending on availability. Daytime availability required. Training provided.

Position Purpose

The Van Driver is responsible for providing friendly, courteous and safe transportation services to senior citizens as assigned or scheduled by the Elder Affairs Services department.

Essential Functions

Assist senior citizens by driving them to and from various appointments. Ensure that riders are safe and comfortable. Assist them as needed to board the bus, and handling of packages or bags.

Perform regular vehicle safety checks including checking fuel, oil, other fluids and tire pressure, and track daily mileage. Ensure van is fueled and cleaned as needed.

Proactively report repairs or service needs to the Elder Affairs Director.

Delivery monthly department newsletters to various locations in Town. Assist with food pantry deliveries as needed.

Attend relevant or required training programs as provided.

Performs similar or related work as required, assigned or directed, or as situation dictates.

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Elder Affairs Director.

The work is generally performed in an office setting where the nature of duties may involve continuous use of telephones, computers and office equipment. Regular attendance at the workplace is required. Work requires regular contact with the public and coworkers in person and by telephone where strong communication and interpersonal skills are utilized.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School diploma/GED and up to one year of experience in an office or transportation related role; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Requirements

Valid Massachusetts Class D Drivers License and a safe driving record.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill

Knowledge: Must have knowledge of safe driving practices including use of GPS, knowledge of how to use a smart phone and hands-free devices. Knowledge of hour to operate a handicap accessible van. Working knowledge of local streets. Knowledge of customer service practices.

Ability: Ability to operate a wheelchair lift and safety assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle. Ability to communicate effectively, and maintain good public relations with members of the public. Ability to be diplomatic, professional and courteous when dealing with others. Ability to meet deadlines and be punctual. Ability to provide excellent customers service and read maps to locate delivery and pick addresses. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others.

Skill: Excellent communication and customers service skills. Must be dependable and have safe driving skills.

Physical Requirements

Minimal physical effort required to perform functions in a typical office environment. Position requires the ability to operate a vehicle and standard office equipment. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and to reach with hands and arms . Employee may be required to stoop, bend and lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, and to talk and hear. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
