Job summary

Seattle Hebrew Academy is seeking an experienced English Language Development (ELD) Teacher to support K–8 multilingual learners who are developing English language proficiency. The role focuses on individualized and small-group instruction, coordinating with General Studies, Judaic Studies, and Learning Center teams to identify needs and ensure consistent supports throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• TESOL/ESOL/TOEFL/CELTA/DELTA/EL certification or endorsement preferred.
• Teaching certification preferred.
• Experience teaching English learners in elementary and/or middle school settings.
• Strong understanding of second-language acquisition and effective ELL instructional practices.
• Knowledge of Hebrew is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group English language instruction for students in grades K–8.
• Support students in developing skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and academic English.
• Differentiate instruction based on students’ ages, English proficiency levels, and individual learning needs.
• Support students in accessing grade-level classroom curriculum and assignments.
• Collaborate with the Gesher Program Director, classroom teachers and the Learning Center team to identify student needs and appropriate supports.
• Develop instructional goals and monitor student progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt lessons, materials, assignments, and assessments as appropriate.
• Provide teachers with strategies and tools for supporting multilingual learners within the general classroom.
• Communicate with teachers and families regarding student progress as appropriate.
• Maintain organized records of instruction, goals, and progress.
• Help students build confidence and independence as English learners.
• Participate in student support meetings and contribute to intervention and support plans.
