Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 seeks an EL Coordinator II to support English Language Learners across buildings. This full-time exempt administrative role reports to the Superintendent and EL leadership and leads program planning, staff development, and compliance with Title III.

Based at Proviso West HS, the position entails coordinating EL services, data-driven planning, and collaboration with teachers, paraprofessionals, and district staff to advance language acquisition.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an education-related field required.
  • Valid Illinois PEL with high school endorsement required.
  • Certification in ESL and/or bilingual certification required.
  • Minimum of two years teaching in high school.
  • Ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Implements EL program requirements directed by the District EL Administrator.
  • Provides program support to facilitate language acquisition.
  • Plans quarterly EL staff meetings and semester paraprofessional meetings.
  • Develops professional development for staff addressing EL needs.
  • Supports Title III Consolidated applications with the District EL Administrator.
  • Collaborates with EL teachers on student and program needs.
  • Reviews Program Evaluation and Reclassification forms.
  • Meets regularly with the District EL Administrator and attends Title III meetings.
  • Evaluates and selects EL program materials and resources.
  • Plans family outreach events for EL families and connects resources.

General Description

The English Language Learners (EL) Coordinator II is responsible for providing direct and indirect program support to administration, teachers, and program support staff to provide consistent and effective services for students in the district who speak a language other than English. The English Learners Coordinator advocates for the needs of EL students at the building level by attending department meetings and sharing strategies to support English language development. The English Language Learners Coordinator assists Building staff in the development and implementation of high-quality instruction and curricular programs to support English Language learners.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Employees are responsible for obtaining/retaining the most current statutory and administrative rule requirements for their position.

  • Education/Training: Master's Degree or higher in an education related field
  • Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a high school level endorsement
  • Certification in English as a Second Language, and/or Bilingual/Bicultural certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of successful teaching experience in high school, accomplished, experienced educator and leader
  • Knowledge/Abilities/Skills: Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five years of experience working in EL programming.
  • Experience with language acquisition and instructional strategy for EL students in a public education setting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Knowledge of language acquisition, and its application.
  • Ability to interpret and make decisions based on data.
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.

  • Knowledgeable in the areas of curriculum, instructional methods, and theory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities *
  • Implements the EL program requirements as directed by the District EL Administrator
  • Provides program support to facilitate language acquisition.
  • Plans quarterly meetings of EL staff.
  • Plans semesterly meetings of Bilingual Education Paraprofessionals and orientate new paraprofessionals to the position.
  • Develops professional development for staff to meet the needs of EL students in the school.
  • Supports the District EL Administrator with Title III Consolidated application(s).
  • Collaborates with EL teachers regarding student and programmatic needs.
  • Reviews Program Evaluation and Reclassification forms.
  • Meets regularly with the District EL Administrator.
  • Attends required Title III meetings.
  • Collaborates with District EL Administrator to evaluate and select program materials to support English Language Learners.
  • Assists EL teachers in connecting with resources to support language instruction.
  • Serves on district committees to advocate for the specific needs of EL students.
  • Plans family outreach events for English Language learner families.
  • Facilitates the District ordering and administration of EL assessment in conjunction with the District EL Administrator.
  • Advocates for the needs of EL students and their families.
  • Attends professional development offerings as available.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.*

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board's policy on evaluation of personnel. All evaluations shall comply with State and Federal law.
