Job summary

Fairfield JR SR High School in Goshen, Indiana is seeking a part-time ESL Assistant to support the language assistance program. Starting immediately, the role runs 180 contracted days with 29.5 hours per week and is grant funded.

You will collaborate with EL Coordinator and teachers to implement EL services, instruct students individually and in groups, and promote cultural understanding while maintaining regular attendance and professional conduct.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Sensitivity to needs of LEP (Limited English Proficient) students.
• Proficient in written and verbal English
• Ability to plan and organize
• Skills in human relations.
• Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students, teachers, staff and parents.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance in the implementation of the language assistance program through collaboration with the contact-area teachers.
• Instruct students both individually and in groups as directed by the EL Coordinator.
• Provide assistance in fostering understanding and respect for a variety of cultural backgrounds.
• Observe classroom teacher's instruction and then supplements support for EL students in the classroom.
• Assist with pupil behavior under the direction of the certified teacher.
• Meet regularly with the EL Coordinator for training to ensure consistent teaching practices throughout the ESL program.
• Demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with all persons in the school and community.
• Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function of this position.
• Performs duties as assigned by the EL Coordinator and building principal.
• This is a grant funded position.
