Job summary

Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District seeks an EL instructional assistant to support English language learners in grades K–12. The role is 7.0 hours/day, 195 days/year, with push-in/pull-out support, testing, and data management.

Qualifications

• 2 years of college coursework OR an Associate's Degree or higher OR high school diploma with passage of the ParaPro Assessment prior to employment
• One year of related successful work experience
• Strong interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Provide EL push in and/or pull out instruction to students in grades K–12
• Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement
• Maintain database of EL and EL-eligible students
• Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (EL plans) and collaborate with classroom teachers
• Assist in completing EL Accommodations Forms and EL Progress Reports
• Help implement differentiated instruction with classroom teachers
• Develop curriculum to help EL students acquire English
• Use varied instructional techniques (whole group, small group, or individual)
• Compile and maintain a profile summary for each student
• Gather and report data for required reports (Ohio Dept. of Education, grants, etc.)
• Establish and maintain communication with parents and engage families
• Participate in EL Team monthly meetings and professional development
