Job summary

MUHA is seeking an EKG Technician to operate EKG machines, prepare patients, attach electrodes, and record cardiac activity for diagnostic testing. You may also attach Holter or Zio monitors and generate reports for physicians.

The role requires a high school diploma, current CET or equivalent certification preferred (BLS required), and a patient-centered approach with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; CET preferred but not required, on-the-job EKG training with at least one year of health-care experience.
• Current CET certification or equivalent is preferred but not required; BLS required.
• Experience with Holter/ Zio monitoring preferred; strong accuracy in recording EKG data.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrocardiogram (EKG) tests on patients using EKG machines and related equipment.
• Prepare patients for EKG procedures by explaining the process, positioning patients correctly, and attaching electrodes.
• Ensure proper functioning and calibration of EKG equipment, troubleshoot issues, and maintain equipment cleanliness and safety.
• Record and document EKG results accurately, including patient information, test conditions, and any abnormalities.
• Collaborate with cardiologists and nurses to relay EKG findings and assist in patient care decisions.
• Monitor patients during EKG procedures for discomfort or adverse reactions and respond appropriately.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy of cardiac data according to regulations.
• Assist in scheduling and coordinating EKG appointments.

Job Description/Summary

Responsibilities:

1. 1. Perform electrocardiogram (EKG) tests on patients using EKG machines and related equipment.
2. 2. Prepare patients for EKG procedures by explaining the process, positioning patients correctly, and attaching electrodes to the chest, arms, and legs as needed.
3. 3. Ensure proper functioning and calibration of EKG equipment, troubleshoot any issues, and maintain equipment cleanliness and safety.
4. 4. Record and document EKG results accurately, including patient information, test conditions, and any abnormalities or deviations from normal cardiac rhythms.
5. 5. Collaborate with healthcare providers, including cardiologists and nurses, to relay EKG findings and assist in patient care decisions.
6. 6. Monitor patients during EKG procedures for signs of discomfort, distress, or adverse reactions, and respond appropriately.
7. 7. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations and ethical standards in handling cardiac data and patient information.
8. 8. Assist in scheduling and coordinating EKG appointments, ensuring efficient workflow and patient satisfaction.

Minimum Training and Education :

• - High school diploma or equivalent. Current certification as a Certified EKG Technician (CET) or equivalent certification preferred, but not required, OR , documented on-the-job - EKG training with at least one year of directly-related patient care experience in a health care setting. Experience in Holter Monitor scanning and Stress Treadmill procedures preferred.
• - Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrocardiography principles.
• - Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and proficiency in recording and interpreting EKG data.
• - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
• - Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple responsibilities, and maintain composure in fast-paced clinical environments.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations :

• Current certification as a Certified EKG Technician (CET) or equivalent certification preferred, but not required, OR , documented on-the-job EKG training with at least one year of directly-related patient care experience in a health care setting.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical Requirements:

• Mobility to move around the healthcare facility and assist patients with positioning for EKG procedures.
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to attach electrodes accurately and operate EKG equipment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move equipment as necessary.
