Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a PRN EKG Technician in Ohio to perform 12- and 18-lead ECGs, rhythm strips, and Holter/Event monitoring with high-quality tracings. You will document results for cardiologist interpretation, following department procedures.

Responsibilities include ensuring correct patient identification, proper lead placement, transmitting and processing EKGs, and maintaining equipment. BLS certification and a high school diploma are required; 1 year of EKG experience preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required)
• High school graduate or GED (required)
• 1 year of EKG experience (preferred)
• Use and comprehend basic computer applications and diagnose common EKG equipment problems.

Responsibilities

• Verifies patient name armband to order requisition to ensure correct patient receives the test.
• Applies electrodes to chest and extremities with proper lead placement; notes intercostal spaces as required.
• Performs, transmits, and processes EKGs.
• Performs Holter Monitoring procedures: apply/disconnect monitors and guide patient diary of symptoms/events.
• Performs Event Monitor procedures: apply, receive post-event transmissions, and instruct patient on event-recording transmissions.
• Maintains equipment in clean working condition and notifies supervisor/biomed or designated personnel of malfunctions.
• Cross-trains and orients new employees to the department.

Performs 12 and 18 lead ECG, rhythm strips with minimal artifact and high quality. Documents and processes for interpretation by cardiologist, following department policies and procedures. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described within.

Essential Job Functions

• Verifies the patient’s name armband to the order requisition, ensuring that the correct patient receives the test.
• Applies electrodes to the chest and extremity areas, adhering to the standards established for proper lead placement, utilizing alternate sites for lead placement when appropriate and adhering to the standards of counting the intercostal spaces for each patient ensuring proper lead placement. Prepares the patient’s chest area (shave, clean, abrade) when needed to obtain high quality tracings.
• Performs, transmits, and processes EKGs.
• Performs Holter Monitoring procedures. This entails application and disconnection of Holter monitors. Explains to the patient how to maintain the patient’s diary (record keeping) of the symptoms and events experienced.
• Performs Event Monitor procedures. This entails application, receiving post event transmissions. Instructs the patient how to perform event-recording transmissions.
• Maintains equipment in clean and proper working condition and notifies the supervisor, Bio-Medical department or designated personnel of malfunctioning equipment. Notifies manager of needed supplies.
• Participates in cross training and orienting new employees to the department.
