Qualifications

  • Successful completion of training course(s)/certificate for electrocardiography (EKG/ECG) and phlebotomy.
  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, training and education.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cardiac monitoring on the adult population.
  • Perform phlebotomy and routine specimen collection.
  • Practice effective infection control measures.
  • Provide direct nursing care activities as delegated.
  • Provide indirect nursing care activities as determined by routine assignment and unit activity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth and development in patient care.
  • Respond to changing patient care needs and use problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Exchange information on behalf of the patient.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff and visitors.
  • Participate in quality improvement and process improvement activities.

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full‑time TH Clinical Technical Service EKG Associate, Float Team (Nights). The successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Conduct cardiac monitoring on the adult population
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Practice effective infection control measures
  • Perform direct nursing care activities as delegated
  • Perform indirect nursing care activities as determined by routine assignment and unit activity
  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth and development in the delivery of care to patients
  • Respond to the changing needs of patient care areas
  • Use problem‑solving skills in meeting patient care and unit needs
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Obtain, record, and exchange information on behalf of the patient
  • Use ethical principles to guide decisions and actions consistent with UHB’s operating goals and objectives
  • Respect and promote patients’ rights
  • Foster and maintain positive public relations with patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Communicate effectively with customers, visitors, patients, and staff
  • Represent the hospital positively by demonstrating respect and courtesy to all patients, colleagues, staff, and visitors
  • Participate in quality improvement and contribute to process improvement activities
  • Takes an active role in managing resources
  • Plan appropriately to meet departmental objectives and take initiatives where necessary

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of training course(s) and/or certificate for electrocardiography (EKG) or electrocardiograph (ECG), and phlebotomy
  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, training and education
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of full‑time experience providing essential treatment and patient care under professional supervision
  • Graduate of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program and/or a Medical Assistant Program
