Job Description

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part‑time/hourly TH Clinical Technical Service EKG Associate, Emergency Room. The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct cardiac monitoring on the adult population
  • Practices effective Infection Control measures
  • Performs direct nursing care activity as delegated
  • Performs indirect nursing care activities as determined by routine assignment and unit activity
  • Demonstrates knowledge of normal growth and development in the delivery of care to patients
  • Responds to the changing needs of patient care areas
  • Use problem-solving in meeting patient care and unit needs
  • Maintains a safe and efficient work environment
  • Obtains, records, and exchanges information on behalf of the patient
  • Uses ethical principles to guide decisions and actions consistent with UHB's operating goals and objectives
  • Respect and promote Patients’ Rights
  • Fosters/maintains positive public relations with patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Communicates effectively with customers, visitors, patients, and staff
  • Represents the hospital positively by demonstrating respect and courtesy to all patients, colleagues, staff, and visitors
  • Participates in Quality Improvement and contributes to process improvement activities
  • Takes an active role in managing resources
  • Plans appropriately to meet departmental objectives and takes initiatives where necessary

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of training course(s) and/or certificate for electrocardiography (EKG) or electrocardiograph (ECG), and Phlebotomy
  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Associate (AHA)
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, training and education to the above.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-year of full-time experience providing essential treatment and patient care under professional supervision
  • Graduate of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program and/or graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
