Job summary

The Iowa DNR is seeking a motivated engineer to join our Engineering Design team. Working under a Licensed Professional Engineer, the successful applicant will ensure that state infrastructure—from state parks to wildlife areas—is safe, compliant, and built to serve the public for generations.

Pending December 2026 graduates in civil, construction, environmental or agricultural engineering are eligible to apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, construction, environmental, or agricultural engineering.
• Pending December 2026 graduates are eligible to apply.
• Be able to read blueprints/plans and work with technical source data.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete engineering plans and specifications for building facilities; estimate schedules using specialized software.
• Read, interpret, and obtain information from engineering documents; document proposals and search for precedents.
• Assist with inspection and construction observation of capital projects; coordinate contractor relations and change orders.
• Assist with the preparation of contract documents, drawings, specifications, and construction estimates.
• Travel across the state as required.
