Job summary

NYC Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Associate Public Health Sanitarian to design, deliver, and evaluate Environmental Health & Safety training for DEP staff. The role ensures OSHA compliance and fosters a culture of safety and professional development.

You will lead in-person classes on Hazard Communication, PPE, Lab Safety, and Wastewater treatment topics, while maintaining training records and supporting cross-unit safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 30 credits in physical/biological sciences and 2 years of inspections experience.
• Associate degree with 15 credits in physical/biological sciences and 4 years of inspection experience.
• Education/experience equivalent to above with 60 credits and 2 years public health sanitarian experience.
• 2 years of public health sanitarian experience required for promotion.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Training Programs: conduct in-person EHS training classes.
• Train New Hires: lead orientation for new employees on DEP safety protocols.
• Develop Curricula: research regulations and design new training modules.
• Maintain Records: enter training data and generate management reports.
• Evaluate Effectiveness: review vendor programs and provide feedback.
• Support Safety Compliance: recommend PPE and review safety plans.
• Collaborate Across Units: coordinate with supervisors and staff.
