Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Technician I to support workplace safety and environmental programs at our Houston area facility. The role involves assisting in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and related regulations, performing inspections, and helping drive continuous safety improvements.

This entry-level position requires a high school diploma or GED, OSHA 10/30 preferred, and 0–2 years of manufacturing experience.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of OSHA safety standards and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to use computers, including MS Office suite, ERP for procurement and other EHS specific software.
  • Ability to identify hazards and recognize unsafe conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Support routine workplace inspections and hazard assessments to identify risks.
  • Support data collection, reporting and communication of safety metrics to stakeholders.
  • Assist with incident investigations, including documenting findings and root-cause analysis.

Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts (1st and 2nd)

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Technician I support the implementation and maintenance of workplace safety and environmental programs. This role assists in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while promoting a safe and sustainable work environment. The EHS Technician I works under guidance to monitor safety practices, conduct inspections, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist in ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Inspection & Risk Identification: Support routine workplace inspections and hazard assessments to identify potential risks and unsafe conditions.
  • KPI and performance tracking: Support and sustain collection and reporting and communication of data to plant and organization stakeholders.
  • Incident Investigation Support: Assist with incident investigations, including documenting findings and helping identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Safety Training: Help coordinate and deliver basic safety training programs, including new hire orientation and recurring safety topics.
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Maintain safety records, track basic safety metrics, and assist with report preparation.
  • Environmental Support: Assist with waste management, SPCC, recycling programs, and environmental compliance activities.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Support emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness initiatives.
  • Procurement and maintenance support for safety related equipment: Control of PPE stock and creation of replenishment requisitions.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Basic understanding of OSHA safety standards and workplace safety practices
  • Ability to use computers, including MS office suite, ERP for procurement and other EHS specific software
  • Ability to identify hazards and recognize unsafe conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Qualifications
  • Education: High school Diploma, GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification; willingness to obtain additional certification
  • 0–2 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or related environment (internship/co-op experience acceptable)
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations or workplace safety principles preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lifting Capacity – ability to lift up 30 lbs.
  • Mobility – prolonged periods of time on feet, standing, bending, etc.
  • Exposure – moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Noise Tolerance – high noise levels.
