Job summary

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is seeking an Early Head Start Teacher to support infants and toddlers from birth to age three in a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

The role focuses on promoting cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development while partnering with families and ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and licensing requirements. Full-time position in Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
• Minimum one year of supervised classroom experience with children birth through age three.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants and toddlers.
• Plan and implement daily and weekly lessons aligned with MSDE and Head Start standards.
• Conduct developmental screenings, observations, and ongoing assessments.
• Develop and update IFSPs in partnership with families.
• Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and daily routines.
• Enter child development data into Teaching Strategies GOLD and MyHeadStart systems
• Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences
• Partner with families to support child development and school readiness
• Provide guidance on safety, nutrition, and positive discipline
• Connect families with community resources and support services
• Participate in recruitment, enrollment, and community outreach activities
• Maintain attendance records, meal counts, and child/family documentation
• Maintain compliance with Early Head Start, licensing, and organizational standards
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities
• Support extended-day program operations as needed
• Assist with family engagement activities, volunteer events, and program initiatives

Help Children and Families Build Strong Foundations

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is seeking a caring and dedicated Early Head Start Teacher to support infants and toddlers from birth to age three in a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

This role focuses on promoting children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development while building strong partnerships with families. Teachers play a vital role in preparing children for future success while ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Maryland licensing requirements, and program policies.

What You'll Do

• Create a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants and toddlers
• Plan and implement daily and weekly lesson plans aligned with MSDE and Head Start standards
• Conduct developmental screenings, observations, and ongoing assessments
• Develop and update Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) in partnership with families
• Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and daily routines
• Support toileting, diapering, handwashing, teeth brushing, and other hygiene activities
• Enter child development data into Teaching Strategies GOLD and MyHeadStart systems
• Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences
• Partner with families to support child development and school readiness
• Provide guidance on safety, nutrition, child development, constructive play, and positive discipline
• Connect families with community resources and support services
• Participate in recruitment, enrollment, and community outreach activities
• Conduct daily health and safety inspections and routine fire drills
• Maintain accurate attendance records, meal counts, and child/family documentation
• Document incidents, injuries, and safety concerns according to program requirements
• Maintain compliance with Early Head Start, licensing, and organizational standards
• Participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, case reviews, and professional development activities
• Support extended-day program operations as needed
• Assist with family engagement activities, volunteer events, and program initiatives

Schedule

• Program hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM
• Flexible scheduling required to support program needs and extended-day services
• Extended-day coverage may be assigned based on enrollment and attendance needs

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
• Minimum one year of supervised classroom experience with children birth through age three

Required Certifications

• 45-Hour Infant and Toddler Certificate
• 90-Hour Child Care Certificate
• Infant-Toddler CDA certification (within 90 days of hire)
• Infant/Toddler CPR and First Aid Certification (within 90 days of hire)
• Universal Precautions Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

• 9-Hour Communications Certification
• Valid Maryland driver's license and insurance
• Experience working with diverse families and children with varying developmental needs

Additional Requirements

• Early Head Start CJIS criminal background clearance
• Pre-employment physical examination and tuberculosis screening

Physical Requirements

Medium Physical Demand

• Lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting up to 25 pounds

• Frequent use of hands and arms to support classroom activities and child care routines

Travel Requirements

• Up to 50% local travel
• Weekly home visits and community outreach activities
• Personal vehicle required (mileage reimbursement available)
