Job summary

Nucor Corporation in Terrell, TX, seeks a seasoned Environmental Health and Safety leader to oversee a team of coordinators and EHS professionals. You will lead safety culture initiatives, audits, and training while ensuring strict compliance with EPA and OSHA standards and driving continuous improvement across the facility.

The role requires leadership experience in manufacturing, the ability to work non-standard shifts, and travel to other Nucor sites.

Qualifications

  • Three years of leadership experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Two years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work off shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel to other Nucor sites and corporate conferences on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead themselves and a team of coordinators and EHS personnel in safety, health, and environmental duties.
  • Foster safety culture by building relationships and identifying hazards.
  • Conduct safety and environmental audits and provide coaching across the facility.
  • Stop work when unsafe conditions exist and lead incident investigations with corrective actions.
  • Develop and analyze SH&E reports, partnering with operations to address trends.
  • Advise management and provide support during investigations and incidents.
  • Design and manage SH&E training programs and systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement through safety-related projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local laws, EPA and OSHA standards.

Basic Job Functions:

  • Lead division teams to identify hazards and implement solutions.
  • Conduct regular safety and environmental audits across the facility, providing coaching and feedback to teammates and departments.
  • Has the authority and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions exist and to lead incident investigations through corrective action closeout.
  • Develop and analyze Safety, Health, and Environmental reports, partnering with operations to address trends.
  • Advise management on concerns, offering critical support during investigations and major incidents.
  • Design, implement, and manage health, safety, and environmental training programs and systems.
  • Spearhead safety-related projects to drive continuous improvement.
  • Best mark safety initiatives, projects, policies, and procedures with other Nucor divisions.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, local laws, EPA regulations, and OSHA standards. (Air permitting, hazardous waste management, storm water, spill prevention, NESHAP awareness)
  • Lead the EHS team to be technical resource and consultants in the long-term planning and implementation of facility improvements.
  • Develop and implement teammate training and PDP programs as well as provide performance appraisals and recommend compensation adjustments based on performance.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and accountability to the EHS Team.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor Buildings Group Texas will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in leadership, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Two years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work off shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel to other Nucor sites and corporate conferences on a regular basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in environmental and/or safety management
  • Technical degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of:
    • EPA regulatory compliance (permitting, inspections, audits)
    • OSHA standards, recordkeeping, and reporting
    • Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Systems

Must have supervisor and/or manager recommendation and must be able to perform all essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
