Job summary

PPG is seeking an EHS Specialist (Site Lead) to manage the Environmental, Health and Safety program for the Cedar Falls, Iowa plant and support a secondary facility in Peru, Illinois. You will provide leadership, training, and direction to ensure a safe workplace and regulatory compliance across sites.

Responsibilities include overseeing audits, industrial hygiene, environmental reporting, and incident management while traveling up to 30% to the secondary location.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and workers' compensation.

Job description

EHS Specialist (Site Lead)

As the EHS Specialist (Site Lead), you will manage the Environmental, Health and Safety program for PPG's Cedar Falls, Iowa plant and support a secondary facility in Peru, Illinois. You will provide leadership, direction and training to ensure a safe and healthful workplace that complies with all applicable laws and regulations and minimizes risk.

You will report to the Sr. EHS Manager, Coatings Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local, and PPG requirements and policies.
  • Drive injury prevention and spill elimination programs.
  • Provide leadership and direction for EHS training.
  • Oversee and complete the industrial hygiene program.
  • Submit workers' compensation documentation for work‑related injuries and assist with case management.
  • Provide technical guidance for the facility‑wide MOC program.
  • Evaluate the EHS impacts of capital projects and ensure risk assessments are completed.
  • Oversee audit readiness, mentorship for compliance audits, and corrective action management.
  • Lead emergency response activities.
  • Liaise with the environmental Center of Excellence for environmental matters.
  • Develop programs to reduce EHS risks and to comply with regulatory and PPG corporate requirements and management systems.
  • Complete and submit Federal, State, and Local environmental reports such as OSHA logs, and be responsible for site permits.
  • Oversee the Waste Management Program (Hazardous, Non‑Hazardous, Universal).
  • Help develop leading indicators that drive continuous improvement in sustainability metrics (energy, water, waste), spill incidents, injuries, and the EHS Management System.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of safety and environmental regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, Workers' Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, and investigation techniques.
  • Ability to act as an advisor to management and employees across a variety of issues.
  • Knowledge of organizational change and building a safety culture through influence and engagement.
  • Candidate may be based at Illinois or Iowa facility. Travel up to 30% to the secondary location. Travel and expense card is provided.
