Job description

Summary:

The EHS Specialist II provides occupational safety and environmental compliance support for ArrMaz and the Arkema Surfactants BU. The position requires direct interaction with employees, suppliers, vendors, and contract employees, at the Mulberry, FL, Convent, LA, Soda Springs, ID, Vanceboro, NC, and Tulsa, OK locations as well as the corporate Arkema EHS network to exchange information and ideas directly related to the success of the plant and the BU.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership in creating a zero injury, zero process safety event work culture
• Serve as plant administrator for learning management systems – MyCareer and MyLearning
• Serve as plant administrator for EHS software - Benchmark Digital
• Develop new and modify existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, federal laws, and regulations, and corporate standards
• Conduct site audits of HES programs and identify gaps or trends. Develop action plans for improvement
• Participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR's) as a Health & Safety SME and highlight actions needed to comply with plant policies
• Lead root cause investigations for plant incidents or events
• Provide input to the site’s Emergency Response Plans and assist with execution
• Lead pre-storm planning and communication during severe weather (hurricane, flooding) events.
• Maintain PPE supplies and implement new PPE as required by incident investigation, regulation and as needed for improved safety
• Participate in raw material reviews and new product development to ensure manufacturing and handling related hazards are mitigated
• Lead the review of site-submitted safety observations and collaborate with a cross-functional team to assign and track corrective actions
• Develop, review, and administer EHS training programs and activities to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, federal laws and regulations, and corporate standards
• Conduct periodic training system assessments and audits to ensure that appropriate training is assigned and completed by all site personnel. Provide training status reports
• Collaborate with operations and HR to facilitate new employee training, instructor led training events and regular safety meetings
• Assist, as directed, with delivering classroom and field training
• Facilitate internal environmental reporting and coordinate quarterly report data reviews with plant management. Work in tandem with the Manager, EHSQ to ensure environmental data is accurately and appropriately submitted into internal database.
• Generate timely and accurate chemical reports for the preparation of ArrMaz Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), Tier II, UDOCS and other annual regulatory agency reports
• Assist in the implementation of Arkema corporate environmental improvement initiatives
• Provide information and training to plant management and personnel with the goal of providing the tools and knowledge needed to meet their environmental-related job responsibilities.
• Assist in developing the site’s environmental compliance improvement strategy. Track data, understand causes, and make recommendation to systematically reduce the frequency and significance of environmental events. Evaluate waste disposal costs and identify waste reduction/recycling opportunities. Develop projects to achieve waste and cost reduction
• Accountable for communicating regulatory and permit requirements to plant personnel with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the local, state and federal regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Education Required
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on EHS.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
ASP/CSP Certification preferred
Experience with developing and implementing EHS systems and policies
