Qualifications

JOB TITLE: EHS Specialist II
LOCATION: Gainesville
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining and improving the current EHS system and ensuring internal and external compliance in Environmental and Health & Safety matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborates with all departments involved to mitigate EHS risks and threats.
• Actively promotes the EHS culture and supports in the compliancy with corporate EHS standards and local legislation.
• EHS Metrics: Follow-up, reporting and escalation of relevant metrics such as near misses, accidents, energy, water, and waste.
• Monitors pick-up and registration of waste streams. Maintains relevant procedures, ensuring conformity with the different waste streams and regulations.
• Participate in the identification of analysis of hazards, causes of accidents at work and occupational diseases.
• Performs risk assessments and creates/maintains job safety analysis.
• Maintains and updates chemical SDS database.
• Analyzes data to determine its quality, validity, and scientific significance.
• Communicates with the organization or public regarding the scientific, technical or safety procedures undertaken.
• Organizes workshop, conferences, and trainings to the employees regarding environmental management and safety issues.
• Provide information on environmental relevance by charts, graphs, and presentations.
• Perform workplace safety and EPA inspections to ensure facility compliance to state and federal regulations.
• Oversees the hearing protection program and ensures all required employees receive annual testing and monitoring.
• Oversee the respirator program and ensures all employees required to wear a respirator and those who voluntarily wear a respirator are monitored by a physician, has a proper fit testing and training.
• Oversees the forklift training and inspection program
• Oversees the CPR program and ensures first responders are trained per regulations.
• Oversees sewer testing and ensures lab results are compliant and sent to the appropriate individuals.
• Ensures compliance to our Hazardous waste, MSGP, Air Operating, Annual Operating, Sara Tier II, Tri Reporting, Industrical Waste (GRU) permit and other permits/licensing to state and federal regulations.
• Uses time effectively, highly developed organization skills
• Provides feedback to management on job related issues in a timely and effective manner. Reports improper handling of waste, chemicals, or other products immediately.
• Identify and develop good working relationships with state and local authorities (i.e. state/local environmental and safety agencies, wastewater authorities, fire departments, etc.).
• Stay current and ensure compliance with Federal and State Regulations and the record keeping requirements for each
• Lead root-cause analysis after accidents or near misses and assist in identifying preventative measures and putting those measures into action.
• All other tasks as assigned by the Production Manager.

TRAINING

• Must receive annual safety training and annual training on managing hazardous waste relative to each department and the facility in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Must renew forklift train the trainer certification training every three years. Must obtain forklift trainer certification within ninety (90) days of hire)

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in an environmental science, health or other environmental studies or job equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of three to five years experience in an environmental safety role is required.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of all regulatory requirements related to safety and hazardous waste management.
• Experience in performing industrial recycling operations is preferred.
• Must have analytical and project management skills.
• Familiarity with ergonomics preferred.
• Must be a strong team player and strong communication skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must obtain hazardous waste and equipment handling and inspections certifications.

Must obtain forklift certification within first ninety days of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Must demonstrate ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must demonstrate ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
