Job summary

Responsibilities

• Review corporate safety and environmental policies/procedures and implements to site level standards and requirements.
• Develop, write, review and audit site programs for compliance with governmental and/or industry consensus standards.
• Complete EHS evaluations for new projects, facility and equipment modifications.
• Investigate employee incidents, near misses, and employee concerns regarding safety, health, industrial hygiene.
• Develop and conduct requisite EHS training (New Hire Orientation, respiratory protection, LOTO, Confined Space Entry, electrical safety, hazardous materials shipping and disposal, and machine guarding).
• Perform follow-up and ensure closure of safety related CAPA and recommendations from audits.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review corporate safety and environmental policies/procedures and implements to site level standards and requirements.
• Develop, write, review and audit site programs for compliance with governmental and/or industry consensus standards. Update/implement changes as needed.
• Complete EHS evaluations for new projects, facility and equipment modifications.
• Investigate employee incidents, near misses, and employee concerns regarding safety, health, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, etc.
• Develop and conduct requisite EHS training (New Hire Orientation, respiratory protection, LOTO, Confined Space Entry, electrical safety, hazardous materials shipping and disposal, and machine guarding, etc.)
• Perform follow-up and ensure closure of safety related corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and recommendations from various corporate organizations and internal/external audits as assigned by manager.
• Perform various EHS related inspections for storm water, SPCC, hazardous waste, spill response, fall protection equipment, ladders, sprinkler systems, etc.
• Prepare regulatory reports and compile data to support them.
• Coordinate hazardous material shipments and complete environmental and hazardous material regulatory reporting as needed with manager oversight.
• Responsible for chemical hazard awareness, hazmat shipment oversight and contractor/constructions related safety programs.
• Follow up on inspection program findings as assigned.
• Good working knowledge of risk assessment tools and techniques (JHA, PHA, FMEA, and HAZOP) is required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree - EHS, engineering, or closely related discipline or equivalent experience required.
• Knowledge of FDA, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations and requirements.
• DOT Haz Mat / RCRA Haz Waste Certification a plus.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills are a must.
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Proven track record of leading successful EHS teams and/or committees.
• Computer and application proficiency needed, as well as knowledge of EHS management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 18001, and ANSI Z10).
• A CIH, CSP, CHMM, QEP or similar certifications preferred; or willingness to obtain.
• First aid/CPR, other medical certifications, training certifications or emergency response experience a plus.

Knowledge/Skills Needed

• Strong understanding of and able to interpret and apply EHS regulatory requirements and technical codes of practice (OSHA, EPA, ANSI, DOT and NFPA).
• Excellent interpersonal skills, highly effective written and verbal communication skills, problem solving and decision-making abilities.
• High level of personal and professional integrity. Self-starter; highly detail- and outcome-oriented.
• Strong organizational, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
• Successfully working in a cross functional team environment is necessary.
• Proficient in Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Inspires respect and trust, motivates others to work safely.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work in an office, manufacturing environment, and laboratory.
• Ability to push and/or pull materials using a pallet jack and/or cart.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to properly don PPE required for entry into specific areas (i.e. PAPR, gowning, safety glasses, lab coat, safety shoes)
