Job summary

Industrial Electric Manufacturing (IEM) is seeking an EHS Specialist in San Antonio, TX. You will support and advance environmental, health, and safety programs in a manufacturing setting, ensuring OSHA compliance and improving safety and environmental performance.

The role reports to the Director of EH&S and requires strong regulatory knowledge and the ability to manage multiple projects. The position is in-office with no remote work, with travel up to 10% occasionally required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
• 3–7 years of EHS experience in manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard analysis, incident investigation, and safety program implementation.
• Experience with safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and EHS training programs preferred.
• Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHST or equivalent are a plus.
• Demonstrated ambition with growth and leadership potential in a fast-paced organization.

Responsibilities

• Support development and continuous improvement of facility EHS programs.
• Conduct safety inspections of cranes, eyewash/showers, forklifts, and other equipment; track findings.
• Lead or support incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Perform JSAs, risk assessments, and PPE hazard assessments.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for new hires and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain emergency response plans and SDS database in compliance with GHS.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate safety risks.
• Support OSHA and environmental regulatory reporting as applicable.
• Analyze safety data and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with internal and external EHS audits and action plans.
• Promote a strong safety culture through engagement and leadership.

IEM is currently seeking an EHS Specialist for our San Antonio, TX and will report to the Director of EH&S. The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting and advancing environmental, health, and safety programs within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety standards while proactively identifying opportunities to improve workplace safety and environmental performance.

The EHS Specialist partners with operations, quality, and leadership teams to implement effective safety initiatives, conduct investigations, deliver training, and drive continuous improvement in safety culture. This role requires strong regulatory knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Occasional travel (<10%) may be required.

This position will be based temporarily in NE San Antonio while our new manufacturing plant is coming online. Our permanent location is approximately 25 minutes away at Brooks, 7515 Inner Circle Dr., San Antonio, 78235. The position is also 100% in-office and does not offer remote work.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of facility EHS programs and initiatives.
• Conduct routine and compliance-driven safety inspections including cranes, emergency eyewash/showers, forklifts, and other regulated equipment. Track audit findings and ensure timely corrective actions and closure.
• Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
• Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk assessments, and PPE hazard assessments for new equipment, processes, and operational changes.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including new hire orientation, regulatory training, and refresher safety courses.
• Maintain and update facility emergency response plans, evacuation maps, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Manage and maintain the chemical inventory system and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database, ensuring compliance with Globally Harmonized System (GHS) standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify safety risks and implement practical engineering or administrative controls.
• Support regulatory compliance activities including OSHA requirements, recordkeeping, and environmental reporting where applicable.
• Analyze safety metrics, inspection data, and incident trends to identify improvement opportunities and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with internal and external EHS audits and support the implementation of corrective actions.
• Support and promote a strong safety culture through employee engagement, communication, and leadership support.
• The candidate will be expected to perform additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.

Physical Requirements

• Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
