Job summary

SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC., located in San Diego, CA, seeks an Environmental Health and Safety Technician to support shipyard operations with focus on compliance, inspections, training, and hazardous materials handling.

The role requires OSHA maritime knowledge, ability to work long hours and in demanding environments aboard ships, and coordination of hazardous waste removal. This is a full-time, on-site position in San Diego.

Qualifications

• Two years of EH&S experience.
• Must be certified HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Maritime Safety.
• Knowledgeable in OSHA Maritime Standards.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Job Summary

We're seeking an EH&S Technician with commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will provide a variety of duties including but not limited to Ship inspections, training, coordination of hazardous waste removal, sample collection, and more. Candidate can work in confined spaces and has no problem working long hours and weekends.

Must be in San Diego California, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.

• Fall Protection Standards Certificate

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship
• Must be certified HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Maritime Safety

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required.

The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.

Other requirements
