EHS Safety Technician – South Bay Sand Blasting & Tank Cleaning

Location: San Diego, California.

Job Summary: We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Technician committed to safety. The candidate will perform ship inspections, training, hazardous waste removal, sample collection, and related duties in a shipyard environment. The role requires working in confined spaces, long hours, weekends, and exposure to chemicals and noise.

Responsibilities
  • Perform physical duties as assigned.
  • Use proper PPE.
  • Conduct ship inspections.
  • Correct discrepancies.
  • Provide training to crew and staff.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste removal and maintain shipyard hazardous material compliance.
  • Maintain records.
  • Collect samples.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene surveys.
  • Investigate accidents.
  • Provide safety data sheets.
  • Perform specialized tasks requiring on‑the‑job training.
  • Implement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies.
Qualifications
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
  • Excellent time‑management skills, capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Attentive to detail, alert for safety.
  • Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co‑workers.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous EH&S experience.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Maritime Standards.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • OSHA 5410 Maritime Standards Certified.
  • Electrical Safety Standards Certificate.
  • Fall Protection Standards Certificate.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade degree, or apprenticeship.
  • Certifications: HAZWOPER and 10‑hour OSHA Maritime Safety.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Work is conducted indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions. Indoor or aboard vessels with fumes, chemicals, heat, noise, and dust. Requires use of safety equipment. The job involves climbing inclined stairways, vertical ascents, standing and walking for prolonged periods, and potentially harsh environmental conditions.
