Job summary

KBI Biopharma, Inc. is seeking an EHS&S Specialist to partner with the Head of EHSS to implement and manage the Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability program at the Boulder site.

You will co-design and manage SOPs for hazardous waste and wastewater, monitor discharge and resource consumption, and report performance indicators to the site EHS&S dashboard. This role supports global EHSS initiatives and collaborates with engineering and operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety related field or equivalent with 1–5 years’ experience (Level I).
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with 3–8 years’ safety experience or a technical degree with 5–10 years in R&D/manufacturing safety (Level II).
  • Certified in regulated safety activities (e.g., RCRA, DOT, OSHA).
  • Preference for experience in cGMP biotech/pharma environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental and sustainability programs across site departments.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for hazardous waste and wastewater.
  • Monitor and report environmental metrics via EHS&S dashboard.
  • Coordinate contracts with service providers; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in incident response, risk management, and training activities.

Job description

The EHS&S Specialist assists the site's Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainable Development Head for the implementation of the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) program. Main part of the mission is to manage the environmental and sustainability part of site program and coordinates the implementation and maintenance of it with all the site's departments, more specifically: Co-design and manages Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which relates to hazardous waste and wastewater management in accordance with the operating permit, regulations, site objectives and biologic contract development and manufacturing organization, Manages measurement and monitoring systems for all types of discharge (water, waste, air) and the consumption of natural resources (water, energy, etc.). Proposes the corresponding performance indicators and reports them into the site's EHS&S dashboard. Defines and manages specific equipment and materials in collaboration with the engineering department experts. Manages specific consumables necessary for the proper execution of the program. Manages contracts with service providers in these areas. Monitors technology and regulations in environmental field and makes proposals for improvement. Secondary part of the mission includes participation in implementing and maintaining global EHS&S program.

By delegation of the of the EHS&S head responsibilities this may include participation in: Incident response, reporting and investigations, risk management. Log Out – Tag Out (LOTO), confined space entry, industrial hygiene, hazard communication, PPE, workers compensation, emergency management, etc. Coordinating with operations to identify and mitigate risks with effective engineering controls, procedures, and training.

Minimum Requirements
  • LevelI: Bachelor of Science degree in an occupational health and safety related field and 1 to 5 years of industry experience as an EHS&S professional or Environmental specialist.
  • LevelII: Bachelor of Science degree in an occupational health and safety related field and a minimum of 3-8 years of industry experience as a safety professional, or Bachelor of Science in a technical discipline and minimum of 5-10 years’ experience as a safety professional in R&D and/or manufacturing.
  • Relevant training and/or certification in regulated safety and environmental activities such as: RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, DOT hazardous materials shipping, First Aid/CPR/AED, 30 Hour General Industry OSHA Certification, 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification, etc.
  • Preferred: Experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment (biotech, pharmaceutical or medical device industries). Knowledge of the operations typical to the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.
Salary Range
  • LevelI: $48,400 - $66,550
  • LevelII: $75,720 - $104,115
  • Salary range provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
