Job summary

Joseph Michaels International is seeking an EH&S-focused engineer to join a California plant team, reporting to the EH&S Director. The role concentrates on regulatory compliance and safety processes within a 75-person manufacturing operation producing at least some own products.

The plant operates under cGMP standards and PSM-oriented practices, with environmental and safety responsibilities spanning training, inspections, and SOP development.

Qualifications

• B.S. in engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably chemicals/materials.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification ideal (24-hour acceptable).
• Train the Trainer certification in LOTO/Confined Space/Fall protection, or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are available and up to date.
• Perform monthly in-person EH&S related training.
• Perform periodic EH&S inspections.
• Participate in weekend safety meetings and safety committee teams.
• Write EH&S related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Member of the 24-hour HAZWOPER team.
• Manage administrative duties with internal EH&S software systems.
• Assist in permit-required environmental activities (wastewater, storm water, air quality, etc).
