Job description

Job Summary

We are currently seeking an outstanding Environmental, Health, & Safety manager to support our Research & Development facility in Palo Alto, California. This is an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of Environmental, Health, Safety principles, a general working knowledge of applicable EHS regulations, strong problem-solving capabilities, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated leadership skills.

Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership: Provide leadership in setting overall strategic site R&D EHS goals and milestones/deliverables in accordance with the Corporate and annual EHS Research & Development directives. Ensure that the R&D site operations and functions are conducted in accordance with local regulations and our core values around Environmental, Health, & Safety.
  2. People Management: Manage the site EHS team, including mentoring and career development. Be an active member of the R&D Global EHS team. Help the site continue its safety improvement journey.
  3. Program Management: Manage site R&D EHS programs and associated audits, including boiler and pilot plants, wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste, air emissions, storm water, enzyme safety, confined space entry, electrical safety, emergency response, hazard communication, hearing conservation, PPE, injury/illness prevention, medical surveillance, EHS auditing, and training.
  4. Compliance: Ensure regulatory reporting and compliance with state, federal, and local agencies. Prepare, submit, and monitor compliance with regulatory permits.
  5. Projects & Site Development: Evaluate EHS implications of new R&D projects and site process changes. Participate in site project teams as appropriate. Mentor and promote EHS awareness among all employees, especially newcomers.
Requirements:
  1. MS/MPH in industrial hygiene, environmental, or related fields with 3-5 years' experience in EHS; BS with relevant experience is acceptable.
  2. Preferred certifications: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  3. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams. Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  4. Highly motivated with strong problem-solving skills. Capable of working independently or collaboratively.
  5. Knowledge of hazard recognition, control methodologies, and industrial hygiene principles and monitoring techniques.
  6. Ability to interpret corporate, business, and regulatory guidelines and seek guidance from EHS experts as needed.
Compensation and Benefits:

Salary ranges from $120K to $145K, based on experience, skills, certifications, and location. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k, vacation, holidays, paid parental leave (maternity and paternity), and an annual bonus plan.

Salary Ranges: $97,700 - $181,400
