Job summary

H.B. Fuller in Simpsonville, SC is seeking a Safety Leadership & Compliance professional to implement EHSS& S programs on-site, lead the facility Safety Team, and drive compliance with regulatory requirements.

The role focuses on training, incident investigations, audits, and continuous improvement across environmental health, safety, and process safety domains. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor's degree in a safety-related field, with knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, and PSM/RMP frameworks,

  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of U.S. security regulations and compliance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain EHSS& S management systems and corporate safety programs.

  • Lead accident, injury, and near-miss investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure training, procedures, tools, and PPE are in place for safe work.
  • Develop, monitor, and communicate EHSS& S goals, metrics, and leading indicators.
  • Maintain injury and illness tracking systems and reporting procedures.
  • Ensure emergency response programs and teams are maintained (First Aid, spill response, Safety Committee).
  • Collaborate with corporate and global EHSS& S teams on programs and best practices.

Primary Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
  • Implement and maintain the site's EHSS&S management systems and corporate safety programs.
  • Assess training needs and develop, coordinate, and deliver employee safety training programs.
  • Lead the facility Safety Team and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
  • Lead accident, injury, and near‑miss investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of plant operations to ensure employees have the training, procedures, tools, and PPE necessary to work safely.
  • Develop, monitor, and communicate EHSS&S goals, metrics, leading indicators, and performance results.
  • Maintain injury and illness tracking systems and ensure proper reporting procedures are followed.
  • Ensure emergency response programs and teams are maintained, including First Aid, HAZWOPER spill response, and Safety Committee activities.
  • Build and sustain a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
  • Collaborate with corporate and global EHSS&S teams to implement company‑wide programs, initiatives, and best practices.
Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
  • Manage environmental permits and regulatory programs, ensuring ongoing compliance, audit readiness, timely reporting, and permit modifications as required.
  • Coordinate environmental inspections, sampling, record‑keeping, and submissions required by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage hazardous and special waste activities, including profiling, storage, transportation, and disposal.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance training related to hazardous waste, stormwater, spill prevention, air permitting, and waste minimization.
  • Conduct facility inspections and identify opportunities for housekeeping, environmental, and safety improvements.
  • Customize and implement corporate environmental programs to meet site‑specific operational needs.
Industrial Hygiene & Exposure Management
  • Develop and maintain employee health risk assessments, approved chemical inventories, and the site Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Assess chemical and physical hazard exposures through workplace observations, process hazard reviews, and evaluation of process or product changes.
  • Conduct or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring activities, document findings, and communicate recommendations for exposure control improvements.
  • Recommend and support implementation of engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to reduce employee exposures.
  • Serve as a resource on chemical and physical hazard recognition, exposure assessment, and control strategies.
Process Safety & Continuous Improvement
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including HAZOP reviews, process hazard assessments, engineering controls, and Management of Change (MOC) activities.
  • Review capital projects and process modifications to ensure EHSS&S considerations are incorporated into facility design and operations.
  • Maintain relationships with local medical providers, emergency responders, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Support additional EHSS&S, security, and sustainability initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Experience with or working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, Responsible Care, Risk Management Programs (RMP), Process Safety Management (PSM), and related regulations.
  • Experience developing and delivering EHS training programs.
  • Experience conducting accident and incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong project management, leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of U.S. security regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to support other facilities and corporate audit activities.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing or another highly regulated industrial environment.
  • Experience with industrial hygiene assessments and exposure monitoring programs.
  • Experience supporting environmental permitting and sustainability initiatives.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP, MOC, PSM, and regulatory compliance audits.
  • Familiarity with SWPPP, SPCC, NAD Stormwater management
  • CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or similar professional certification preferred.
Work Environment
  • Significant time spent on the manufacturing floor and throughout the facility engaging with employees and supporting safety initiatives.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and stair climbing.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally without assistance.
  • Ability to work in a chemical manufacturing environment and wear required PPE.
  • Onsite - (Plant follows a 5-day operation schedule, 24 hours per day)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $85,000 - $125,000 depending on experience.
