Job summary

System One in Elmira Heights, NY seeks a seasoned EHS leader to manage occupational health, safety, and environmental programs. You will drive regulatory compliance with OSHA, DEC, NY State accreditations, and ISO standards, while guiding audits, risk assessments, and training.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance sustainability, manage site EHS goals, and report performance to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field; Master's preferred.
• CSP or CIH professional certifications preferred.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, regulatory compliance, Human Resources, and training.
• Strong leadership and advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DEC, State Accreditations (New York), ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.
• Lead efforts to continuously improve workplace safety, reduce injuries and illnesses, and minimize environmental impact.
• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive programs related to Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental issues.
• Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, and deliver relevant training sessions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive sustainability initiatives, maintain documentation, and report on EHS performance to senior leadership.
• Translate corporate EHS requirements into management systems with site-specific goals and interface with regulatory agencies.
• Manage and direct the site in achieving EHS targets and ISO certifications; support creation of EHS goals for leadership and frontline teams.
• Coordinate annual EHS audits, oversee corrective actions, and report audit results to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA standards including industrial hygiene, confined space entry, fall protection, machine guarding, and contractor safety.
• Manage storm water permits, air sampling protocols, and staff training in safety and environmental awareness programs.
• Administer employee safety and risk programs and maintain Workers Compensation insurance policies.
• Participate in administrative staff meetings and other gatherings.

• Lead efforts to continuously improve workplace safety, reduce work-related injuries and occupational illnesses, and minimize environmental impact.
• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive programs related to Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental issues.
• Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, and deliver relevant training sessions to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive sustainability initiatives, maintain accurate documentation, and report on EHS performance metrics to senior leadership.
• Translate corporate EHS requirements into management systems with site-specific goals, interfacing with regulatory agencies and acting as liaison with government authorities.
• Manage and direct the site in achieving EHS targets and ISO certifications; support creation of EHS goals for leadership and frontline teams.
• Manage EHS priorities during facility restructuring projects, ensuring environmental permits are obtained prior to process changes.
• Facilitate and coordinate annual EHS audits, oversee corrective actions, and report audit results to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA standards including industrial hygiene, confined space entry, fall protection, machine guarding, and contractor safety.
• Manage storm water permits, air sampling protocols, and outsource or train staff in safety and environmental awareness programs.
• Administer employee safety and risk programs and maintain current insurance policies including Workers Compensation.
• Participate in administrative staff meetings and other relevant gatherings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field; Master's preferred.
• Professional certifications such as CSP or CIH preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, regulatory compliance, Human Resources, and training.
• Strong leadership and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; Access skills desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hands-on management capacity.
• Must adhere to safety requirements, report injuries and unsafe conditions promptly, and wear required PPE.
