Job summary

The Sherwin-Williams Company is seeking an experienced EHS Leader to develop and maintain a culture of safety, health, and environmental excellence at the Romeoville site. You will oversee all EHS programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive injury reduction through training and investigations.

Lead safety meetings, audit compliance, and coordinate with operations, HR, and management to sustain a safe workplace and DOT/VPP standards across the CTS fleet and site operations.

Qualifications

• This role requires a bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of EHS work experience.
• Preferred: formal training in continuous improvement tools (Six Sigma, Lean, 5S).
• Experience in manufacturing or distribution settings is a plus.
• Leadership experience and DOT/VPP familiarity encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and lead Safety Team and Driver Safety Meetings
• Oversee logging regulations and verifications, including re-audits

Job description

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a culture that drives continuous improvement of safety, health, and environmental excellence. It is responsible for all EHS programs, activities, and control measures for the site and CTS Fleet. This individual will also be accountable for ensuring compliance with VPP standards and all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements related to occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance. The role maintains CTS compliance with all DOT regulations and coordinates safety training and related activities associated with regulated programs, including OSHA VPP. Included in the position's purview is working with operations management, management staff and employees to ensure safety and environmental compliance. This role serves as the key catalyst in efforts to reduce and eliminate the frequency and severity of injuries through timely and effective investigation, awareness, and training programs.

This position administers, coordinates and manages environmental, health and safety activities for both CTS fleet and the DSC. In addition, this position assures CTS compliance with all DOT regulations and coordinates safety training and related activities associated with regulated programs, including OSHA VPP. Working with operations management, management staff and employees, this position serves as the key catalyst in efforts to reduce and eliminate the frequency and severity of injuries through timely and effective awareness and training programs; Root Cause Analysis on warehouse and CTS incidents; data mining to identify trends, etc.

Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM with flexibility to support a 24/7 operation

10% Travel

This position is also eligible for a bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.

• Plan, coordinate and lead Safety Team and Driver Safety Meetings
• Oversee all logging regulations and verifications, including re-audits of any log discrepancies
• Support Human Resources in interviewing and safety determinations and DOT requirements regarding applicants
• Develop and implement safety and health training and awareness programs designed to promote employee participation and support for safety goals and objectives based on thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations
• Maintain regulatory compliance reporting, recordkeeping, and monitoring (OSHA, EPA, FMCSA and DOT).
• Collect and maintain employee data
• Investigate and report all accidents and incidents, including any follow-ups to ensure corrective action
• Provide timely reports/audits to management and oversight as required
• Develop and implement safety and environmental programs that ensure a safe work environment as well as compliance with Company Policies, Federal, State, and local regulations
• Integrate risk control/loss control into daily operations
• Promote safe actions among all business associates
• Administer incentive and award program for CTS
• Responsible for training of CTS on new/revised laws as they relate to the various teams
• Coordinate all location safety, occupational health, and fire protection improvement projects
• Ensure that all employees are properly trained in safety, lift truck operation, Hazard Communication, respiratory protection, spill assessment/response, etc.
• Contribute to personal growth in the safety field by participating in appropriate on the job activities and professional development opportunities
• Intervene in emergency situations in order to minimize the risk to life, safety, and physical assets.
• Ensure and coordinate compliance for claims and procedures with State Workers Compensation laws.

• Ensuring employee safety and health policy and programs comply with government and corporate regulations
• Compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding the CTS Fleet
• Develop and initiate programs and processes to reduce frequency and severity of occupational injuries, illnesses, and property losses.
• Coordinating the employee safety and health programs and activities of the site
• Ensuring response to safety and health questions and concerns
• Maintain employees and management involvement in safety and health efforts of the site
• Ensuring accurate and accessible systems and records for retrieval of safety and health issues
• Providing mechanisms for communicating safety and health issues to site.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
• Must have a bachelor's degree or higher or have at least four (8) years of work experience in environmental, health and safety
• Must have at least three (3) years of work experience in environmental, health, and safety

Preferred Qualifications:

• Have completed formal training in and/or have at least one (1) year of work experience applying continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, etc.
• Have at least one (1) year of work experience in a manufacturing or distribution facility
• Have a bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental, Health & Safety, Engineering or Business
• Have prior work experience leading or participating in an OSHA VPP Audit or maintaining VPP status
• Have prior supervisory experience
• Have working experience with DOT (Department of Transportation) compliance
