Job summary

DSJ Global is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager to lead all EHS initiatives for a dairy processing production facility. The role emphasizes strengthening safety culture, reducing risk, and ensuring regulatory compliance across environmental and workplace safety programs.

The candidate will drive continuous improvement, manage incident investigations, supervise EHS staff, and partner with operations, maintenance, quality, and HR to deliver strategic safety outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS leadership in manufacturing or industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and environmental compliance programs.
  • Experience with incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all EHS programs and systems across the facility.
  • Develop and improve EHS policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as SME on EHS compliance, risk management, and safety.
  • Develop, audit, and maintain EHS documentation and records.
  • Coordinate safety inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Lead incident investigations and CAPA initiatives.
  • Manage workers' compensation in partnership with HR.
  • Support Process Safety Management activities, including ammonia refrigeration where applicable.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs.
  • Oversee emergency response preparedness and safety supplies.
  • Lead environmental reporting, permits, and inspections.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in safety and environmental stewardship.

Position Overview

A growing food and dairy processing organization is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives for a production facility. This individual will be responsible for strengthening safety culture, reducing operational risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing environmental programs, and driving continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all Environmental, Health & Safety programs and systems for the facility.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
  • Serve as the site's subject matter expert on EHS compliance, risk management, and workplace safety.
  • Develop, maintain, and audit EHS documentation, programs, procedures, and records.
  • Coordinate facility safety inspections, environmental audits, and corrective action programs.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action initiatives.
  • Manage workers' compensation cases in partnership with site leadership and human resources.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, including ammonia refrigeration systems where applicable.
  • Identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership teams.
  • Oversee emergency response preparedness and safety supply programs.
  • Manage environmental reporting, permits, inspections, recordkeeping, and agency correspondence.
  • Lead site safety committees and drive accountability for action items.
  • Track and report key EHS metrics, trends, compliance performance, and improvement initiatives.
  • Partner closely with operations, maintenance, sanitation, quality, HR, and leadership teams.
  • Support food safety and quality programs from an EHS perspective.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement focused on employee safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Supervise EHS personnel and site safety resources.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, performance management, and professional development for team members.
  • Influence leaders and employees at all levels to achieve safety and compliance objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams focused on safety and environmental improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant EHS experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively increasing EHS leadership experience within manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance standards, and workplace safety programs.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action management.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, compliance audits, and inspections.
  • Experience developing and delivering employee safety training programs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and regulatory requirements simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, coaching, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and external auditors.
  • Proficiency in EHS metrics, reporting, compliance management, and risk assessment programs.
