Job summary

H.B. Fuller in Charlotte, NC seeks a Site EHS Manager to lead the EHS program across multiple sites and guide the transition into a consolidated Charlotte facility.

Role requires building a compliant EHS structure from the ground up, implementing policies, and coordinating with the regional team to ensure regulatory adherence and safe operations. Travel up to 50% is expected during the transition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental or related field is required.
  • 7–10+ years in an EHS focused role within a chemical processing environment.
  • 5+ years managing OSHA, EPA, NFPA & PSM and related regulations.
  • 2+ years managing projects with solid PM skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; leadership capability.

Responsibilities

  • Adopt and implement EHS policies with initial focus on High-Risk Operations (HRO).
  • Develop and deliver training programs to meet regulatory and site needs (hazardous waste, stormwater, SPCC, air permits).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and internal requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and minimize safety, health, environmental, and liability risks.
  • Implement and maintain EHS programs, tools, and systems including web resources and databases.
  • Tailor corporate environmental programs to meet local facility needs.
  • Proactively manage permit requirements and ensure timely updates to environmental programs.
  • Ensure employees have tools and training to work safely.
  • Lead incident and near-miss investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Design and conduct audits for ongoing compliance and effectiveness.
  • Manage hazardous and special waste including profiling, storage, and shipments.
  • Ensure emergency response capabilities with First Aid, firefighting, HAZWOPER teams.
  • Communicate EHS goals and progress site-wide.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and mentor the EHS committee.
  • Provide sustainability data and support achievement of program goals.

Overview

Due to business streamlining, multiple facilities are being moved into one facility in the Charlotte area. To Facilitate a safe and efficient transition, this unique role will travel to the existing sites to manage Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance needs while learning the business prior to consolidation into the Charlotte location. Once transitioned, this person will assume responsibility as the Site EHS Manager. The EHS Manager will be primarily responsible for building and maintaining the EHS program structure from the ground up utilizing corporate policies.Implementation and execution will be paramount to success of the new facility. This Role will report to the Future Charlotte Facility Manager with support from the Regional EHS team.

Initial Support Responsibilities (2-3 years)
  • Ability to travel up to 30%-50% supporting other locations as needed

  • Provide necessary EHS support (see EHS Manager responsibilities below) to 3 separate MFG facilities located in California and Georgia (including Wilmington, Irvine, Ball Ground)

  • Learn EHS compliance needs of each location

  • Learn aerospace requirements as needed

  • Lead site closure EHS efforts for closure of hazardous waste storage areas, termination of permits, retention of regulatory records, state and local agency needs

  • Assist Charlotte site establishment as needed for EHS permitting, equipment installation, contractor management, classified area requirements, and other efforts as needed

Site EHS Manager Responsibilities
  • Adopt and implement EHS policies, with an initial focus on High-Risk Operations (HRO).

  • Develop and execute training programs to meet regulatory requirements and site needs (e.g., hazardous waste, stormwater, SPCC, air permits).

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and internal requirements.

  • Proactively Identify, evaluate, and minimize safety, health, environmental, and liability risks across operations.

  • Implement and maintain EHS programs, tools, and systems, including web resources, databases, and program guidance.

  • Tailor corporate environmental programs to meet local facility needs.

  • Proactively manage permit requirements and ensure timely updates to environmental programs.

  • Ensure employees have the tools, knowledge, and resources to perform their jobs safely.

  • Lead incident and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.

  • Design and conduct audits of processes and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.

  • Manage hazardous and special waste, including profiling, storage, shipment, and product returns.

  • Ensure effective emergency response capabilities, including First Aid, firefighting, and HAZWOPER spill response teams.

  • Communicate EHS goals, metrics, and progress across the site.

  • Promote and sustain a positive safety culture throughout the organization.

  • Support, recruit, and mentor the site EHS committee.

  • Provide sustainability data and support achievement of program goals.

  • Drive continuous improvement across all EHS programs and performance areas

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental or related field.

  • 7-10 + years working in an EHS focused role in a chemical processing environment

  • 5 + years working managing OSHA, EPA, NFPA & PSM and other applicable regulations

  • 2 + years managing projects with effective project management skills

  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent skills in the use of MS Office programs and experience with EHS related reporting systems.

  • Excellent leadership and training skills

  • Extensive experience facilitating In-house training on a variety of EHS topics in accordance with EHS management objectives.

  • Experience facilitating accident and Incident Investigation and Analysis.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, process work rapidly, set priorities, work under pressure and follow through with required tasks.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% supporting other locations as needed and the corporate compliance audit and assessment program

  • Experience in aerospace Industry a plus

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
  • This employee is expected to spend a significant portion of their time on the plant floor engaging with employees and working on safety culture implementation and improvements.

  • Frequent walking, standing and climbing stairs is required.

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted, although infrequent

  • Will work in a chemical manufacturing environment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $90,000 - $115,000.
